Longest time for first defence?

Post by Rexob »

So what has been the longest time, before a boxer has been stripped without defending their belts after winning them?

I'm going back a few years, but didn't it take Andre Ward well over a year to make another defense after he beat Dawson?

It felt like ages anyway...

Didn't Fitzsimmons take over two years to (unsuccesfully) defend his title?

Some guy called Muhammad Ali took 15 months to defend his title for the first time, also in a rematch against a guy he was not supposed to beat and he went on to have a decent enough career

Another guy Jack Dempsey took over 14 months to defend the first time.

Tyson is just shy of month 10.

Yes, I think this is a case of the "I want it now" culture in full flow, the fans are to blame, for being so impatient!
