Best Defense - Active Boxer

Post by BAD INTENTIONS »

I haven't discussed defense in a while.

Of course you could go Rigo, but he's been blackballed and doesn't fight anyone.

Ward maybe, but I wouldn't define him as having classic defense.
He's just like a perfect robot boxing machine. But he doesn't have a defense you can EASILY marvel at.

So which fighter has the best defense?

I think Lara is more sharp than defensive genius ... if you get it.

A year ago I would have said Moreno. Six years ago Calderon.

Ward by default. Lomachenko is solid.

To me Ward and Rigo are above anyone else I have seen recently. Lomo was out-landed in 9 of the 12 rounds with Salido, so I wasn't impressed as he was fairly easy to find by a guy that has like a dozen losses. Anyway, Lomo could be in the top ten defensively, but has work to do in order to be up with Ward and Rigo, imo. Lomo is still largely untested in the pro ranks, so he will hopefully get better.

He's as tested as Rigo. Who also has been hit plenty.

Lomachenko is amazing. What is most impressive is that he's right in the face of his opponents and they can't hit him.

Might as well throw in his mate Oleskander Uysk as well while we are at it.

He is.
And often, like many of his style, underrated defensively because he fights offensively.
But it should be noted that it is SO much harder to stay un-hit when you are doing so much attacking.
What Rigo does is mind blowing at times but Lomachenkos ability to avoid punches at close counter should not be discounted just because he chooses not to fight in a typical defensive way.
He sets fighters up, counters well, move brilliantly, constantly positions his opponent where he want's them and makes people miss wildly

All that said. Rigo is still better defensively
