Whilst researching my grandfather’s career (Dick Burke, Liverpool, global id# 9917) I was confused over the entries for his fights with Sid Aldridge, Leeds, global id# 63179 and Boy Aldridge, Doncaster, global id #677353.
I suspected they were one and the same but they clearly have different boxing records.
I recently unearthed a report in the Tuesday March 6th edition of the Yorkshire Post which seems to resolve the confusion.
Based on the report, Dick’s two fights were against Sid Aldridge, Featherweight, of Leeds. The reported fight on 5th March 1934 at the Leeds Town Hall was won by Sid Aldridge on points and the report ends with “Aldridge thus confirmed a previous win over Burke at Manchester”.
The Manchester fight I believe was at the Kings Hall, Belle Vue on the 11th December, 1933. The main fight on that bill was Jackie Brown defending his World Flyweight title against Ginger Foran. Brown won on points over 15 rounds.
Also, by 1933-34 Dick was fighting as a Featherweight and “BOY Aldridge, Doncaster is listed as a Bantam.
Only issue appears to be that your Sid Aldridge record shows Sid as fighting Bill Howley at Leeds on the 10th December, 1933

Re: Dick Burke Global ID#9917 Record
Hi Steve,
You are correct and it was Sid Aldridge that your grandfather fought twice. The Dec. 11 1933 fight was Aldridge's second fight in two days. Thanks for the update.
