Isn't it crazy how every other modern sport (in the US) has some form of free agency.
All the top stars use it as a way to further enhance the salaries and guaranteed benefits of the athletes.
Isn't so strange how almost every fighter in boxing never goes through free agency?
I think the problem is fighter keep signing contracts based on a number of fights.
If a promoter wants to keep you, he can just put you on the shelf until you sign an extension.
Or they make big fight offers attached to extensions.
Either way, I don't think it's fair.
I think a real free agency would help boxing SOOO much.
This sounds bad, but fighters would become expendable to promoters because they aren't guaranteed their future purses.
You would have to make the best fights you could possibly make in order to maximize your contract time.
Of course, there will be rule breakers who amass a huge following who can break this, but F UCK them,
they'll be bitches anyway.
