What's with the Tesco Joe name?

apparently he used to work behind the checkout at Tesco. I can't confirm or deny the stories he was telling at the time about his occupation- rumour has it MI6 were invoked- but he definitely worked at Tesco. allegedly.

I hate that about this country. How is that derogatory working in supermarket? Better than bludging off the state. The same country where one half literally falls over itself to be seen as right on, and the other half moans about immigrants taking jobs, yet its somehow shameful to work in tescos. Rant over.
