Oleksandr Usyk vs. Michael Hunter

Post by Freedom2013 »

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Michael Hunter is possible for December 10 in New York, on the Golovkin-Jacobs card.

Hopefully HBO will show this fight if it happens.

Also possible is or Damir Beljo in Kiev on Dec 24.

Don't know about Beljo, but Hunter's got some nice boxing skills and as a teenager was actually the top SHW amateur in the US (Wilder was at cruiserweight during this time). He also outclassed and stopped Andy Ruiz (then 'Andres Ruiz Ponce') at the 2007 World Championships, and dropped a super close fight to Beterbiev at the 2012 Olympics.

Obviously not the most proven as a pro, but I think he's pretty good and GGG-Jacobs, Usyk-Hunter would be a nice card.

Fight vs Hunter on HBO is a great opportunity for Usyk for showing his talent for US audience.
Beljo has good record, undefeated puncher, but he has fought no-names and two veterans Epifanio Mendoza and Alejandro Berrio, and it's hard to say something about his level. So the only plus of fighting him is that I could attend it :D

Oleksandr Usyk appears to be a phenomenal talent, but unfortunately he’s campaigning in a division that no one gives a shít about, unless the loser of the Ward-Kovalev bout makes the jump to 200lbs... and this is coming from a Brit that enjoys Tony Bellew's trash-talking.

I can't comment on Michael Hunter Jr., because I haven't seen him fight, probably because he's a novice with less than stellar amateur pedigree that has not faced any world-ranked opposition.
