Golovkin’s stomach exercise routine...

Post by magwitch »

It was the body shots on Brit fighters thread that reminded me about this...

There’s a video out there and I think it’s Gennady in preparation for Brook, where he’s doing some crunches/ sit-ups and he does a nice 87 crunches before stopping. Not visibly exerted at all. His trainer meanwhile is explaining that Golovkin will do a thousand of these after a run, and a further thousand after each training session that day - based on 3 a day (of which the run is one)... Trainer explains that’s 90,000 sit-ups a month. I don’t believe that number for a second. Do any of you?

Yeah I reckon it's probably true or there abouts. I remember Gerald McClellan said he did 3 thousand press-ups a day, things like this just become a habit after a while doing it, same with anything.

sounds to me unnecessary and a recipe for a hernia. Plus it must take a long time. As far as I'm aware, if someone with the right skills catches you with a good one, you're going to feel it whether you're Golovkin or a 14 stone fattie.

I have kids who can do 300-400 press-up's and a thousands sit up's after a session, it's not that hard when you build up to it and it becomes a regular habit.

I reckon I could do 3 a day - if I worked up to it for a couple of weeks :TU:

That sounds bizarre. Hernias are tissue or an organ pushing though a muscle wall. If the muscle is very strong how can that happen? There are a few different types of hernia. What type can be brought on by abdominal exercises?

Always did 20 sets of 50 reps at the end when I was boxing at 13 after doing loads of other stuff. I'd say those numbers could be right, I've seen Golovkin doing Russian Twists with 25kg plates like it was nothing. The guys core is solid.

I don’t know, I’m no qualified medical professional. I’d expect an injury from that sort of repetition. To the stomach or even the back or coccyx from rolling on it a lot. I don’t know tho.

I do one sit up a day, when I wake up in bed and yawn.
