Jose Aldo is now trending and has been for a couple of days, White is saying he refuses to let Aldo go. Me wonders if Aldo has just booked himself a rematch regardless of the McGregor Alvarez outcome. Seems a lot of people are suddenly giving a shit about Aldo.

I like Stephens too but was quite funny when Conor shut him down. It's like fighters get all worked up to take a dig at him and end up looking a bit stupid for doing so. Will be interesting if Conor ever faces Ferguson or Johnson as both are a bit weird but seem to believe in themselves 100% which is so important because if you don't, Conor will find a way to make you doubt yourself.
What kind of penalties do the UFC impose on people who kick off at press conferences? I've seen a few and a decent option when facing McGregor would be to just go at him when they have their silly little face offs with White "holding them back"

None really. Conor and Nate got no repercussions for chucking bottles about. Aldo made Conor flinch at the weigh in face off which clearly had no impact on the outcome. Cormier and Jones got in trouble but that was because it was actually a bit of a scrap, more than handbags anyway.

I assume they'll just throw him some money and he'll quiet down.

I don't totally understand his complaint. I get that he wants a rematch with McGregor, and he beat Edgar to get it, but what if McGregor never comes back down to 145? The UFC can't force him to if he says he can't make the weight anymore.

I don't get why they don't strip McGregor of the FW belt already. It's all just semantics anyway. If Aldo becomes the "full" champ, it's not like McGregor won't get an immediate title shot if he returns to 145, so who really cares?

McGregor wants to be the first to hold 2 belts at the same time. The UFC are being kind and giving him the chance to do it (in fairness he would have had the chance if RDA hadn't pulled out). IMO if he wins, he'll vacate the 145 belt (will still technically have been the only fighter ever to hold 2 belts at once) and look for the biggest money fight available, possible even chase Mayweather again as mad as it is.

I think the point is, after Diaz 1 White said Aldo was getting a rematch, after Diaz 2 Aldo is getting a rematch, when the Alvarez fight was being negotiated - it's not happening Alvarez is fighting Khabib and Aldo is getting his rematch. Conor lost against Diaz and should've lost his chance to get his title shot. Conor fans will say that Aldo had his chance and lost in 13 seconds but remember Mac had his chance in Diaz 1 and lost embarrassingly(the preflight talk and insults, panic wrestling/giving up) after that the second title shot should've disappeared. This guy got a title shot by beating Siver who is fornicating terrible and then by going life and death with Diaz after losing. It's still not a given that he beats Alvarez make no mistake against a lot of top guys he only has a punchers chance, a good one but a punchers chance none the less.

If the UFC wants to be taken seriously as a promotion and not end up like boxing then McGregor shouldn't have gotten a shot coming off either win(at least in FW he was the only one Aldo had yet to beat), Hendo would not be getting a shot either.

I agree and it must be frustrating for Aldo and co. You can kind of see why the UFC does it though. Conor brings the most media attention and of course makes the UFC the most money. It is a company like any other. If a car salesman makes 10x more than his colleague, he's more than likely guna get special treatment from the company.

I understand that it's a business but it's also a sporting promotion/body and as such must keep integrity for the sport, we don't have the most popular NFL/NBA/MLB/AFL/soccer team in the finals based on popularity only on performance. It's not comparable to a business in the sense of special treatment because he makes more money. He has made the sport a circus right now, the press conferences are embarrassing and WWE like ATM instead of (more accomplished) fighters being asked good questions that would give great insight the questions asked are for the lowest common denominator(which are we're Mac gets most of his fans, same as Bork) are given to McGregor and any question given to him that may be a good question is then answered by his same old act. I liked McGregor when he first came on the scene I thought it was something fresh and better than Chaels rehearsed WWE act, but unfortunately as time has gone by its been shown to be the exact same thing but at least Chael was funnier and when he wasn't in troll mode gave some great insight and motivational speeches.

McGregor/Aldo II would be a good fight. The first one had a bit of a flukey feel to it, like the first Cain/JDS fight.

Don't see how it was a fluke when he knocked him out going backwards countering.

13 second stoppages in high-level fights typically involve an unlikely alingment of cirucmstances that usually don't repeat themselves. McGregor winning wasn't flukey, but if they hypothetically fought 99 more times I doubt we'd see an earlier finish than that and I imagine that Aldo would do much better in most bouts.

McGregor/Alvarez is the best fighting the best. It's two champions. Hendo is a top 5 Atg and I love legends last stands. Nothing to complain about from my seat.

Hendo is not a top 5 ATG far too inconsistent. Mcgregor still hasn't proven himself worthy of a super fight like other champions who were denied one.

When one guy dominates another for a full 3 or 5 rounds, you generally have a good idea how a rematch would go. When a guy gets one-punch KO'd inside 15 seconds, it leaves a lot of unknowns and a potential rematch is much tougher to predict.

Like I mentioned, JDS KO'd Cain Velasquez very quickly the first time they fought. In the rematch, Cain totally dominated him and beat him pillar to post over a full 5 rounds. The rubber match looked a lot more like the 2nd fight than like the 1st.

McGregor going life-or-death twice with Nate Diaz indicates to me that he's not on some much higher level than Aldo. He just happened to catch him super cleanly. He'd be the favorite in a rematch, but not a huge one.

True. However on the flipside I can't envision Aldo's chin holding up to the shots McGregor landed on Diaz. Especially in the second fight when he dropped him multiple times.

Also Velasquez- JDS is a little different as Cain is a very strong wrestler. Aldo is primarily a very good striker who has extremely good TDD. It's pretty unlikely he's gonna wrestle fornicate McGregor to death.

Count me in for a McGregor/Aldo rematch. Aldo more than deserves it. Up until the Conor loss, Aldo had been the only UFC FW title holder. Anyone can get caught cold. Conor holding the FW title hostage is atrocious. I like the Alvarez fight as well, but Conor should be stripped already. The sad thing is that Conor most likely will not go back down to FW. And if that's the case, and Conor somehow beats Eddie, as absurd as it sounds at the moment, give Aldo a direct title shot at the LW title. They really owe it to him the way they have been treating him. They have basically been shitting on Aldo ever since Conor has burst on to the scene.

Honestly, I think Conor is a bit shy about making that rematch at any weight. He has a ton to lose this time around.

I don't think Aldo plans on getting hit much in a rematch. You have to admit, the Aldo that came out against Conor was not the normally measured Aldo we are used to seeing.

I think he's more concerned about Aldo pulling out of the fight again after a long camp. How many title fights has Aldo pulled out from injured?

I thought Aldo fought more intelligently in the second Edgar fight but in the second Mundes fight it was a slug fest pretty much. Aldo can fight intelligently but he also does end up brawling at times.

If he ends up in a brawl with Conor in a rematch, he deserves to get KOed.
