Re: GGG-Jacobs
I was assuming the Canelo injury (and subsequent freeing of HBO's budget) meant this would NOT be on PPV.
Re: GGG-Jacobs
Was never impressed with Jacobs, he looked very robotic and slow against Mora last time out. Mora has a history of making fighters look bad because of his awkwardness but it's clear Mora's legs are gone and didn't look good at all IMO. GGG will knock Jacobs out and it won't be competitive for a second.
Re: GGG-Jacobs
Two things could happen in this one:
Jacobs, fueled by NY fans, puts out the performance of his life and beats the aged GGG on the cards and the GGG antagonists will say that GGG was just an overrated boxer created by the media.
GGG, dispatches Jacobs somewhere around the 7th round after starting slow and the GGG boo birds will point to how "weak" the middleweight division is and not give him any credit for knocking out such a fine boxer.
Per usual, GGG is in a no win situation. Meanwhile, he continues to put together his epic knockout streak adding more and more premium boxers names to it. 136-4-1 That's the combined record of GGG's last 5 victims. Find me me another boxer facing that kind of opposition in their last 5 fights. Someday, GGG will get the credit he deserves.

Re: GGG-Jacobs
I agree that in with regard to his critics, there is probably nothing GGG can do in this fight. If he blows Jacobs out early, they'll say he has a china chin (which may be true), if Jacobs wins rounds before being stopped or does the unlikely and goes the distance, they'll say GGG was 'exposed' (which is ridiculous).caldo2025 wrote:Two things could happen in this one:

Looking at the combined record of past victims isn't a great way to gauge quality of opposition. Dominic Wade was undefeated and that fight was a complete mismatch. Orlando Salido is 43-14-4 and isn't far off being a p4p fighter.

It seems that the people that contributed comments on this thread have already made excuses for GGG's next performance, regardless of outcome, which they probably wouldn't do for other fighters.
It seems he's in a win-win situation if he faces Jacobs, as people have already prepared excuses for him no matter the result.

I find it really funny that you’re compelled to deliver a pre-emptive strike; despite the fact that what I’ve said is pretty innocuous… it simply adds credence to my original comment.SFW wrote:The fact it affects you so much is by far the best part, that and knowing the fun ain't stopping anytime soon. Re: GGG-Jacobs
Oh no, not at all. I'd love to see Jacobs knock him out, but realism prevents me from thinking it'll happen or that Golovkin is some unproven pampered fighter you might want to believe. See I have no self-serving need to condescend, or need to nitpick every detail of him, but I do enjoy reading your shit then how everyone else reacts. But hey, anything to make ya feel special, fill that void, you do you. Keep it coming, please.

How is he in a win-win situation? If, in the unlikely event, Jacobs beats him, it's a huge backwards step for his career.Enlightened-One wrote:It seems that the people that contributed comments on this thread have already made excuses for GGG's next performance, regardless of outcome, which they probably wouldn't do for other fighters.

Re: GGG-Jacobs
It could happen. Ward isn't immune to getting hit. I just hope team Kovalev have a plan A, B and C and has the mental capacity to deal with frustration. Ward can make a gruelingly frustrating fight. I see Ward frustrating Kov more than he could ever physically hurt him.SFW wrote:Sounds more like wishful thinking, at least to fans pro's and oddsmakers, but we'll see won't we.. Re: GGG-Jacobs
That's a good assessment, though I've seen Kov shook a couple times he has mostly appeared impervious to pain. Extremely tough guy. The frustration will have a clear impact, on offensive efficiency and thinking ability. Kovalev is getting all the credit in the world from me if he solves the Ward puzzle, because I know it is a great challenge. More difficult than anything he has seen thus far.
Re: GGG-Jacobs
Yea mate, this is his test. I saw him get shook against one of Hopkins punches, late in the fight, it woke him up, I couldn't tell you exactly when. He was visibly frustrated by the jab of chilemba. He's a terrific puncher, from his ranges but I havnt seen him be that effective up close. If ward is smothering him, holding him, letting go of a couple of hooks real close, don't know how hes going to like that. Still, anything can happen, it's going to be good to watch. Hopefully haha.SFW wrote:That's a good assessment, though I've seen Kov shook a couple times he has mostly appeared impervious to pain. Extremely tough guy. Re: GGG-Jacobs
Kovalev wasn't frustrated by Chilemba's jab. He was frustrated that he couldn't take him out in his hometown. With Ward, Kovalev is mentally ready to go 12 rounds, and JDJ talks about Ward's holding being the biggest potential problem, so they will have a plan for that.lazboy wrote:Yea mate, this is his test. Personally, I think that Kovalev is not the type you want to frustrate. He doesn't lose it, just gets additional stimulation to kick your ass. Sillakh frustrated him by talking crap. Hopkins stuck his tong out and barely survived 12th round.
Re: GGG-Jacobs
What i meant was, when I talk about frustration, I mean, a jab interrupting your timing and rhythm, not taunting stuff. From what I saw, Chilemba jab disrupted kov, dont get me wrong, it didnt hurt him. Ward has exceptional timing, he can do that to Kov from the outside, then Ward on the inside, firing little shots and holding. When you can't hit someone, when you can't get yourself set to hit someone, you can loose it mentally. Kov is tough though, he has that killer instinct. I hope he out-volumes ward then eventually puts him down. I am team Kov. I just like speculating.boxing_rocks wrote:Kovalev wasn't frustrated by Chilemba's jab. Here is an article with JDJ talking Kovalev's tactics: http://www.boxingnews24.com/2016/09/kov ... ard-fight/?
Re: GGG-Jacobs
Thanks mate, I've read it and it's a good plan. I hope he's able to execute it. Distance will be the factor. Hitting the shoulder, good that's smart but if wards too close, can't happen, if wards to far away, can't happen. But if Kov is able to land on Ward, shoulder, body anywhere, I think we are in for a hell of a fight.boxing_rocks wrote:Here is an article with JDJ talking Kovalev's tactics: http://www.boxingnews24.com/2016/09/kov ... ard-fight/?

Ah, just shit-stirring as usual then. I'm a big GGG fan and will sometimes come to his defense if I think someone is being unfair with him (as per the above), but there are some fans who go way beyond that - getting their knickers in a knot if anyone says anything remotely negative about him, his team or his record. I've actually been called a hater for suggesting that GGG should eventually move up to 168lb.Enlightened-One wrote:My post was aimed directly at the people that posted comments on this thread (intended as light-hearted banter), rather than my actual interpretation of what would likely occur in reality.jezzamundo wrote:How is he in a win-win situation? Re: GGG-Jacobs
No. I’m merely making a light-hearted dig at those individuals whose appreciation for Golovkin has progressed to obscene proportions, whereby they become devotees to a human that they believe is an omnipotent god-like being… compelling them to defend their righteous deity at all cost, no matter what is said or by whom.jezzamundo wrote:Ah, just shit-stirring as usual then.
To be fair, whilst I appreciate that one or two of my posts or threads can be a tad provocative (as reality can often prove itself to be stranger than fiction), the vast majority of the time I’m simply quoting the words articulated by Loeffler, Sanchez and Golovkin… or detailing facts supplied by sources such as The Ring or BoxRec… in parrot-like fashion... and it seems that people would prefer to “shoot the messenger” than to challenge the information provided by third-party sources.
I wasn’t criticising Golovkin, merely mocking his fans.jezzamundo wrote:I'm a big GGG fan and will sometimes come to his defense if I think someone is being unfair with him (as per the above)
It seems we share common ground, because I possess a deep-seated appreciation for the Kazakh puncher and I too have suggested that his legacy and financial situation would be improved if he fulfilled his promise to prove that he could easily compete at 168lbs… and I got aggressively derided for having the sheer audacity to suggest such a “hideously unreasonable” notion.jezzamundo wrote:…there are some fans who go way beyond that - getting their knickers in a knot if anyone says anything remotely negative about him, his team or his record. For the record, anyone interested in my opinion about the likely winner of the GGG-Jacobs fight, my belief is that Golovkin adopts a defensively sound and patient approach to force a stoppage sometime between rounds five and eight (depending on the level of ambition the American shows).
Finally, for those that remain convinced of my so-called “hatred” of Golovkin, why don’t you read the following post and let me know if those words could be written by a man that detested GGG?
