RIP. Really sad news. The thing that is a little alarming is that in his fiancée's Facebook post- she said in the weeks leading up to the fight he had been suffering from bad migraines. I hope there wasn't some thing already going on there that wasn't picked up leading into the bout.

Been glued to twitter over the last two days praying i wouldnt have to see this.Devastated for his family and friends and also Loughlin and Evans.

Its given me a reminder not call opponents bums and criticise them like I do all the time,these lads are braver than ill ever be!

Definately sounds like something was not right in the run up to the bout, you would have to think something was going on, why else woukd his girlfriend make mention of it, definately sounds like something was overlooked. Hopefully they get to the bottom of it, and if connected, lessons can be learned to further improve the safety and wellbeing of fighters.

Only just caught up on this. If the risk wasn't there the sport wouldn't be as compelling as it is. Does make you question your morality though.

Its a bit like F1 motor racing used to be before they made it a lot safer. People watched it to see the crashes rather than to see who the winner was. Jackie Stewart wanted to see the sport made safer, while Stirling Moss thought that would make it less compelling. I have always watched it to see the winner as with boxing, you have to be sick to want to see young men killed or maimed. A doctor at ringside and an ambulance standing by. The corner and the ref deciding when a fight should be stopped usually work well enough to protect a fighter.
