Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 40 - Chris Pyatt vs Sumbu Kalambay
Just watched Sumbu's first fight against Mike McCallum. It was a masterclass in controlled boxing, He almost completely neutralized a dangerous puncher in McCallum.
I wouldn't expect fireworks in this one, unless Pyatt really brings it, but Kalambay was a very skilled boxer.

Pyatt vs Kalambay
1. 10 - 9 - Pyatt - Close round, Kalambay quiet but landed a good counter towards the end. Pyatt slightly busier and quicker
2. 9 - 10 - Kalambay - Landed the more effective punches and made Pyatt fall short too often. Nice timing from Kalambay
3. 10 - 9 - Pyatt - Was scoring that to Sumbu, he was slipping punches and countering and looked strong inside. But Pyatt stole it late with a few solid shots
4. 10 - 10 - Watt scoring all these for Pyatt but he missed too often for my liking. He's the aggressor but little landed from either man here.
5. 10 - 9 - Pyatt - another close one, Pyatt scored a couple good punches late and setting a pace that Kalambay doesn't look comfortable with
6. 10 - 9 - Pyatt - Good round, good work with left hook in particular. Don't like that looping right he throws, missed with about 5 of them
7. 10 - 9 - Pyatt - Another good round, Pyatt having success closing distance quickly and getting a couple shots off, but did eat a few good counters
8. 9 - 10 - Kalambay - Quality work from Sumbu. Good jab, nice right hands catching Pyatt coming in and still slipping a good bit of Pyatts work
9. 10 - 9 - Pyatt - Close again, Thought Kalambay was quiet here and gave Pyatt the round narrowly on workrate.
10. 10 - 9 - Pyatt - worked hard and landed some good shots, looks like he is fading here though.
11. 9 - 10 - Kalambay - Established his jab again, he's neglected it at times. Also timed a couple nice right hands again.
12. 9 - 10 - Kalambay - Tried to up the tempo early, like a man that knew he needed the last round. Pyatt more than happy to oblige, cracking engine on him, but just felt Kalambay did the beeter stuff in the 12th.
116-113 Pyatt.
Excellent fight from Pyatt, worked hard from first to last. Looked like he might wilt in the middle rounds but kept going.
Most of his success came, moving in throwing 2's and 3's.
Kalambay negated that when he used his jab consistently and timed him with the right hand. But he didn't seem to use the jab as well as he has, when I've watched him before.
Was also pleased to see Pyatt matched him on the inside when Kalambay looked the bigger stronger man. Sumbu wasn't the heaviest handed though, so wasn't able to hurt him.
Good fight and fine performance from Chris but perhaps a bit late in Kalambays career
NB - think I agreed with the commentary team on about 3 or 4 rounds. Not sure if my scoring was pish or theirs

I'll watch the Kalambay fight tomorrow but I watched the Cameron fight,if you could call it that, cracking right hand from Pyatt to end things in the 1st although i thought Mark deserved an 8 count from the ref that's the 1st time I'd seen Chris, looking forward to the Kalambay fight

Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 40 - Chris Pyatt vs Sumbu Kalambay
I had Pyatt a clear 118-112 winner, excellent performance and he never allowed Kalambay to use his experience and old man him,Chris just kept pushing out the punches even when he was clearly tired late on,Kalambay did have success but allowed himself to be outworked most rounds on my card

Rather an enigma Kalambay, had a very interesting career; some highly notable scalps, and mixed in excellent company.
Wonder what the story is there, imagine if he'd been a yank or brit, with serious backing, I've a feeling he was even better than his record suggests.
