Arthur Abraham-Martin Murray II in Play, Nov. 12 in Monaco
Former WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (45-5) will fight Martin Murray (33-4-1) on November 12 in Monte Carlo, writes the always well informed Bild am Sonntag in Germany, in what appears to be an eliminator for another shot at the title now held by Gilbert Ramirez.

Has Martin Murray uncovered some vast undiscovered paedophile network within the upper echelons of boxing?!
There can be no other logical reason for the seemingly never ending amount of world title shot opportunities he receives.
I think Paul "fat bastard" Smith is involved in this conspiracy in some way aswell.

Murray was at least very competitive with Abraham, Martinez, and Sturm, and he's taken a P4P monster longer than anyone else has. It wouldn't have been unfair if he got the decisions in a couple of his world title fights, and over roughly the last 2.5 years he's gotten wins over then top 30 MW types in Bursak, Khomitsky, and Spada.
Smith had the decent first showing against Abraham and that's pretty much it. He got clearly beaten in the return, was blasted out in 2 by Groves, hardly won a round against novice Degale, and was hopelessly out of his depth against Ward, not to mention laughably out of shape. In the last 3 years the only non-journeyman he beat was Tony Dodson, who had been stopped early 2 fights before, and we have to go back 7 years for his split decision over Tony Quigley, and nearly 10 years for his split decision over David Banks. Not exactly like these were particularly good opponents either, but they're the best Smith has beaten.
With his commentary gig and big fight opportunities, Smith should consider himself very fortunate.

True although Murray also pretty much got battered around the ring in his last fight with Groves. I think the Martinez how fought was pretty much finished aswell. Sturm- meh, I've never particularly rated him. Abraham was a decent performance although he's not the same fighter he was at 160 and he's also got a lot of miles on the clock these days.crusader wrote:Murray was at least very competitive with Abraham, Martinez, and Sturm, and he's taken a P4P monster longer than anyone else has. Abraham, Martinez, and Sturm weren't exactly great (Martinez at his best was excellent though), but they were all comfortably top 10 and Murray fought on very close terms with each of them. When someone could have very arguably gotten the decision, I don't really treat it as a big mark against them that it didn't go their way. Murray did get well-beaten by Groves though, and it's hard to see how that performance warrants another big fight for him.
Why has Murray-Smith never happened by the way? Loser gets rewarded with another title shot

Yeah I would my mind seeing Murray beat up Smith. I actually think that Fielding would beat Smith aswell.crusader wrote:Abraham, Martinez, and Sturm weren't exactly great (Martinez at his best was excellent though), but they were all comfortably top 10 and Murray fought on very close terms with each of them. Martin Murray isn’t ranked by the WBO, so I’m not sure how he qualifies to participate in a world title eliminator.
Anyway, Sauerland Promotions and Matchroom work closely together and have formed a powerful alliance… and they seem to have a strong influence on boxing’s governing bodies (separately and when they join forces), as we’ve recently witnessed with:
• Tony Bellew being allowed to participate in a voluntary defence against BJ Flores
• Juergen Braehmer being allowed to defend his title against Nathan Cleverly
Therefore, if Sauerland Promotions and Matchroom ask the WBO to make the Abraham-Murray rematch a world title eliminator, they’re bound to oblige. So I expect to see the Brit suddenly enter in their rankings if the fight gets made.
Also, in my opinion, Martin Murray is a bit of a Glen Johnson-type gatekeeper, because in every single one of the five fights he failed to win, he gave a really good account of himself. There are only a handful of names competing at 168lbs that he’d be considered a huge underdog against.

Murray looked shot against Groves. Abraham looked shot against Ramirez. This fight will be a lethargic war. One fighter throws a three punch combo then rests for 5 minutes, then after the resting is done the other fighter throws a three punch combo and rests for 5 minutes while the other rests with him.
Re: Arthur Abraham-Martin Murray II in Play, Nov. 12 in Monaco
Does anyone really want to see AA get another twelve round schooling from Ramirez?
Re: Arthur Abraham-Martin Murray II in Play, Nov. 12 in Monaco
Martin Murray sure gets a lot of big opportunities for a guy that's never actually won any of the ones he's been given. This is probably his best chance I guess, but I think AA still has enough to beat him in a close one.
