Persistent/chronic mental illness is something that 20% of people are believed to suffer from. Some variation of temporary mental illness is suffered by virtually everybody. Could he be suffering from terrible depression? Yes. Could he be using that as an excuse to try and obtain sympathy for having acted like a complete moron? Yes. Until I see a respectable psychiatrist sit down with Fury for an extended period and actually diagnose him with anything, I'm not going to cry crocodile tears about the man's "horrible" condition. He may just as easily be a sociopath playing with people's feelings. In fact, his actual actions suggest that is a real possibility.

You guys should really listen to the self righteous bullshit ya preach lol. I'm skeptical you can handle a fraction of what Fury has, and the guy has been mentally off his whole life. The lack of empathy is a reflection on you, not him. Your free to like or dislike whoever, but it's probably these empty headed judgements and hate that drive afflicted people over the edge. Words like classy shouldn't be in this thread, when none is shown. Is this the first HW champion to say outrageous things? Um no. And some of you have been demanding Fury be stripped and banned the moment he won. He's obviously no Angel, but wtf. Well your getting what you want, and if he hurts himself or completely cracks up you get to enjoy that too. All I say is good luck to him and hope he saves himself from destruction. But I'm in the minority I guess.
I don't think that is fair to be honest mate.

Most people on here are still kind of sitting on the fence in case his mental illness is what he is now saying it is - surely you can see where the scepticism has come from?

One minute we get the "I am mad me" type stuff from Tyson when he dresses up as batman, but then he fails a PED drugs test and suddenly announces he is depressed, then he fails another test for beak and he claims to have full blown mental health issues.

I am guessing that if he can show he actually has mental health issues then this be classed almost like an injury and he will get out of the fight contract without being sued, whereas if it was a case of getting banned for taking various drugs then Klitschko could sue him for all kinds of stuff.
Sitting on the fence, in case their opinion is proven wrong? This guy has claimed mental disturbance, and shown it, from the very beginning this is not something new. Dunno how this got twisted to make it sound out of the blue. It just didn't matter before, dismissed because he wasn't "important" then like he is now. I think skepticism runs rampant when it comes to people we dislike or are offended by, doubts get magnified then. He genuinely has mental problems. That doesn't excuse any infractions he committed punishment is inevitable, but it shouldn't suprise anyone a sick business like boxing pushed an afflicted person over the edge. He needs to save his life, boxing and it's opinions deservedly take a backseat to that. I've seen enough life lost to know that.
If Fury is sick, he needs help. He has access to more help, more support than 99.9% of the people on this planet. Your poor Tyson bullsh!t is laughable.

You are correct that if he is sick nothing matters but getting better. So, he should STFU and get on with it, if that is the case.

You condemn people for expressing their opinions. You condemn the industry for being a sick business that "pushed an afflicted person over the edge." Everyone is to blame but Fury himself, and you, of course.

That's rich.

Where does personal responsibility come into the equation. Boxing is not a pretty business but it gave Fury the opportunity to crawl out of the sh!thole where he was spawned. Fury procured and subjected his body to the cocaine and whatever other substance he managed to abuse. Fury failed the PEDs tests. Fury has been the cause of the postponement of his title defense, twice.

I repeat, Fury needs to STFU and get his sh!t together. He is responsible for the mess his life has become. He needs to do the hard work to fix it, with the ample support and finances at his disposal.

You are not the only person to have "seen enough life lost." Every single one of us who live to an average age will experience plenty of life lost. That's life and death. Get used to it.

Fury is catching hate. That is what haters do. He has also had more than the average share of love. I am not of the opinion that the world must stop and hush for every loud mouthed, drug addicted, mental case to play their narcissistic melodrama out on the world stage.

Somebody give the big oaf the hook, ffs.

That's amusing, you sit there and discredit his statement about his mental health until he is diagnosed by a professional but then offer up your own diagnosis of another mental illness entirely. :brick:

I didn't diagnose him. Predictably, you can't grasp the difference between that and offering alternatives.

Sociopathy is a personality disorder. You don't know the man, and just said his actions lead you to think he is a sociopath. What should have I inferred from your remarks then?

I'd say there's plenty of evidence that it is a possibility, and demanding we just accept anything he says at face value and feel bad for him is for little kids that believe in hero worship. Grow up.

so in your 'field' (sic) you regularly made assessments of people you didn't know, on the basis of what you have heard from them and of them in the media?

He was always bit bonkers. Its entirely possible he went over the edge. I cant imagine him telling such personal things about his family in particular if it was not true.
The way I see it is he's not the most disciplined of athletes to put it mildly and having reached the top of the mountain he couldn't find the motivation to commit himself to another spartan training camp so he did what many young men would do given plenty of money and plenty of time - went out and got wasted most days. Now he's shamelessly playing the gypsy card for all it's worth and throwing in the one size fits all wasters card of "mental illness" to explain his inactivity. To me it's so transparent it's comical.

And so while Tyson's out there doing exactly as he pleases the ban when it comes will probably be backdated to just after the Klitschko fight and in 6 months or a year when his party money runs out he'll have the motivation to fight again cos how the fvck else is he gonna earn big bucks and suddenly he'll be miraculously cured of his mental illness.

I like the guy. He's playing the system and if people are gullible enough to believe him then good luck to him.
Charming.

I was a lot happier when I wasn’t the world champion because people wasn't giving me as much poo. People wasn't wanting me to do all these bad things so much. Listen I've been pushed to the brink. I can't take no more. I'm in a hospital at the moment. I'm seeing psychiatrists. Everything. They say I've got a version of bipolar. I'm a manic depressive. All from what they've done to me. All this poo through boxing, through taking titles, through writing me off. I beat the best man but I'm still poo.

I don't think he's making this up. He mentions elsewhere his wife has left him. There is definitely the ring of his unhinged truth to this.

The whole thing raises a lot of difficult questions. In 2016, with absolutely everybody getting their oar in about everything the famous say and do, what hope for a mentally ill celebrity who can't get himself off social media?
His wife probably left him because of his disrespectful attitude toward women that he announced so publically. I know my girlfriend would never speak to me again except to tell me to go f*ck myself if I said some sh*t like that in a public interview.

I don't feel sorry for Tyson Fury. He's a douche, and bad sh*t happens sometimes to douchebags.

I certainly can't comment on the state of Fury's mental health, but more generally I would observe that the pressure of being world champion is clearly affecting him negatively.

From my classic couch-quarterback cod-psychoanalysis perspective, I would say there are two main reasons for this. Firstly, he now has demands & obligations to meet after doing basically whatever he wanted for years, which does not suit his preference for freedom. Secondly, his victory over Klitschko was as unexpected to him as it was to most of us. These two factors left him badly prepared for the pressure and coverage that comes with being heavyweight world champion.

He doesn't want a break from the Public eye apparently. He's putting all of his personal business out there for all the world to see, and won't shut the hell up about it.
