Dean Francis must have some guts, he dislocated his shoulder on Saturday in the 4th round, but still fought on and won a desicion.

That must have been agony for him. Hopefully he can come back again after surgery, think it shows why he's a champion , must take some mindset to continue in a fight after that happens to you.

Was it the same shoulder he injured before, if that's the case, then surely this is a bad sign.

Unfortunatly yes, the one peace of good news is that a sponser is paying for the surgery to try and correct it.

He's already had a lot of surgery on that shoulder, he was advised by specialists that he would never recover full use, I believe it was the right shoulder. He was advised I think that the shoulder could pop out at any time if he throws a meaningful shot with it. It's a real shame for Dean.

Bad news for Dean. Always liked him and thought he could've gone far. If that shoulder has gone again, I'm afraid that it sounds like game over.

There's a write up on Britishboxing.net and it sounds as if Francis was using the right hand more than usual in the first four rounds until the injury re-surfaced and then boxed one handed for the remainder.

So unlucky. To have the talent Dean had and then have luck like this

he really looked the business at one point - especially when he won that cracking fight with Mark Baker.

I played 2 sports all the way through College, and every single person I knew that had surgery to correct a dislocated shoulder eventually had the problem resurface in the very near future. It's an injury that 2-3 years of strengthing and rehab MIGHT do the trick, but that's too long for a boxer to stay inactive. Very tough situation.

Yeah definitely, though Danny Williams came through the same thing and he seems fully recovered, as far as I can tell. Luck of the draw I guess.

Of course, there are different levels of dislocation, different extremes, etc, but when it just keeps happening to you it's never a good sign. Luck of the draw is really the best explanation.

I dislocated mty shoulder a few years back and even though i never had surgery it comes out very easily and is excrutiatingly painful sometimes. I am sorry for Dean but his career is over i think, he will never come back from this

Whilst I agree, he has got to try and get the sugery and see - you only get one chance at this - remember Vinny Pazienza.

I guess it depends on how much damage is done to the surrounding muscle tissue and more importantly the ligaments when you first injure the shoulder. How did dean injure his, was it a car crash?

I thought it actually happened during his fight with Undra White and then reoccured when he fought against Barney.
