Re: Greatest wins of all time?
What made it a greater win than Randall beating Chavez?
Re: Greatest wins of all time?
With Randall was better fight the bigger surprise. I do not like taking the points but earned then. Great fight definitely. Chavez is the second fight, however showed that the better boxer. .
With Oscar for me greater struggle, the more story and more. That's why I mentioned it.

Chavez proved he had better connections in the Randall rematch, that's about it. Honestly, I can't agree with a single sentiment in that post.Keko wrote:With Randall was better fight the bigger surprise. I do not like taking the points but earned then. Great fight definitely. honestly I'm not a big fan of Chavez, and if you think it's had a great career. The other thing as it allowed more than others, it is already a different theme. Mostly it is realistic to be a better boxer than Randall.
No matter how much someone is favorite or not, I have to be realistic about his career.

The second fight was corrupt as hell. Frankie was winning again and Chavez quit because he knew king bought the judges. He had a greater career than Randall, but Frankie was clearly better h2h.

I always thought that peak Randall would have given peak Chavez all kinds of problems, too.
Re: Greatest wins of all time?
I do not like to blame if you do not have evidence of corruption Chavez he had 77:74,76:75 in second fight
and beat him anyway once again after

Robinson was way past his prime when he beat Fuillmer.

Duran Barkley is such a good fight. That's when I fell in love with Duran and he was well past it.ginty wrote:I liked Durans wins over Barkley and davey Moore Duran was considered shot in both fights facing a much bigger younger champ. JMM ko of Manny Pac was a big against the odds win

Louis' revenge on Schmeling. Possibly the biggest sporting event in the history of the USA (bigger than Miracle on Ice, etc.) Louis not only was carrying the pressure of his own expectations to reclaim the title but he had a giant swath of white AND black America pressuring him to win that fight over not just Schmeling but Nazi Germany in, arguably, the most popular sport of the time. For blacks it meant a chance to prove themselves as heroes on the biggest stage in sports, to overcome the bad image of black sports celebrities (that many whites carried) left by Jack Johnson. If Louis loses that fight he may set black-white relations way back. He might put a serious damper on America's outlook toward WWII. A loss would have given support to the idea that blacks were inferior to whites. That fight was hyped like few other fights ever were. It's bigger than Jesse Owens because the HW title was the greatest prize in sports, at the time.
Another, less obvious, one would be Hagler over Mugabi. It was one thing to sustain a war for 3 rounds by for 11? To say it took an iron will to win that fight was the understatement of the century. Hagler became an absolute colossus among men.

Billy Fox over Jake La Motta – it made Frankie Carbo and 'Blinky' Palermo ‘great’ men who would rule boxing for the next 12 years. (That is: the win went to Palermo.)
- "greatest" comes with many definitions, this one being its affect on the game, (be it a very negative one.)

Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson. It was unreal mo one gave Douglas a chance. Yet he over came so much to win it.
George Foreman over Michael Morer. It gave the sport a hell of a boost. Every talk show in the world had a segment on it.
Duran over Leonard in Montreal. Proving why Duran was an atg.
Frazier over Ali fight of the century it speaks for itself.
Leonard over Hagler. Leonard after a lengthy layoff and moving up 2 divisions. It's like something out of a movie
Louis Shmelling 2. The good vs evil angle. It captured the essence of the time period
Ali over Foreman. Ali was well past his best Foreman was the beast that no one thought could lose.
Ali defeated the odds and captured our imaginations.

Haha mate its awesome. He's a tough C. Slowed down so you see how clever and tough he is. I don't mind watching some of the great fighters slowing down. I liked Leonard Hearns 2 for example. Have you seen James Tony Jirov? I remember it being a similar type of fight.ginty wrote:Same here I broke my girlfriends sofa jumping up when he floored Barkleylazboy wrote:Duran Barkley is such a good fight. Re: Greatest wins of all time?
When the great Roberto Duran beat Iran Barkley in that memorable war, I said "Duran gotta be in the top 5 greatest boxers that ever lived". No doubt about that. At 37, and fighting in a weight class that wasn't his, plus being washed up, he got the win in perhaps the most courageous performance of his career.
I remember when Barkley, a bigger, stronger, younger and taller guy, gave Duran some vicious shots to the chin and The Hands of Stone refused to go down. In round 6 or 7, I believe, Barkley caught Roberto with a left hook that spanned Duran around at least 180 degrees. How Duran survived that round? I don't know. Like Barkley said: "It was his heart that didn't let go"
Duran winning his 4th world title in a weight class TOO BIG FOR HIM was amazing feat. No lightweight champion has ever won a piece of the middleweight crown. He went toe to toe with a bigger guy. And let's not forget that Iran stopped The Hitman, the great Thomas Hearns.
Duran, wherever you are, to me, you are the greatest boxer and toughest son of a bitch of the last 51 years!

Martin Vs Glazkov. How that guy was a belt holder, is absolutely beyond me.
