Re: Anyone else not have any interest in lighter weights?
Most of the fighter I make alot of effort for are in the lower weights, they tend to have everything but Western TV.
Want a tear up-watch Kogawa, Yaegashi, Muranaka, Koki Eto, Liborio Solis, Kohei Kono
Want skills then try an Inoue, Nietes, Guevara, Taguchi, Tanaka
Want seek and destroy then try Gonzalez, Higa, Zoda, Srisaket
And the match ups they are giving us constantly deliver, heck Kogawa Vs Otake (now featured for free as part of the Boxingraise sample - http://boxingraise.com/sample) was sensational despite being a mismatch on paper.
We hear how the "lack of competition" hurts the divisions but a division with-
Gonzalez, Inoue, Cuadras, Estrada, Srisaket, Kono, Tete, Ishida, Orucuta, Kal Yafai,, Butler, Conlan, Igarashi and McJoe Arroyo is hardly lacking...like wise a division with Inoue, Casimero, Waseem, Nietes, Higa, Zoda, Viloria, Reveco, Saludar, Yodmongkol, Kogawa, Guevara, McWilliams Arroyo, Rodriguez Jr is hardly weak compared to some of the favoured divisions.

research them sir, theres a lot of quality in japan but they not all from there, ive had brilliant nights watching the likes of dave mcauley, pat Clinton, paul weir, jake matlala, micheal carbajal, humberto Gonzales, nana konadu, galaxy twins, kid akeem and many many others, and none of those are from japanboxingknockout wrote:Sorry if it sound wrong but a lot of lighter fighters are from Japan etc and fight there. Fair enough. But its true I can't get excited by guys weighing 8stone s much as a 10stone, 12 stone, 18 stone fighterlittlepug wrote:research them sir, theres a lot of quality in japan but they not all from there, ive had brilliant nights watching the likes of dave mcauley, pat Clinton, paul weir, jake matlala, micheal carbajal, humberto Gonzales, nana konadu, galaxy twins, kid akeem and many many others, and none of those are from japanboxingknockout wrote:Sorry if it sound wrong but a lot of lighter fighters are from Japan etc and fight there. Re: Anyone else not have any interest in lighter weights?
Internationally the featherweight division is the best division out there.
Re: Anyone else not have any interest in lighter weights?
have heard this before, but to be fair when 2 guys of the same weight are boxing you cant tell which division they are in anyway so it doesn't really matter, my mate caught tete v butler part way through and thought they were welters ha haboxingknockout wrote:Fair enough. Probably my favourite division, I tend not to bother with anything apart from Gonzalez below that to be honestFitzy901 wrote:Internationally the featherweight division is the best division out there.
Re: Anyone else not have any interest in lighter weights?
Technically the lighter weights are superior and busier. The best have not bad KO records but when I settle down to watch boxing and it's in one of the lightest divisions then I jut assume it's going to distance and they're going to be hitting each other all night without looking like they're going to hurt each other.
In my mind there has to be the element of excitement with a potential KO to keep it interesting usually.

Not freakishly small for Japan, Thailand, China and Korea thoughrm1 wrote:I draw the line at bantam below that they are just freakishly small men and the competition is reduced by the lack of people that size.. But at bantam and above there are some great fights.
Plus the ones that take off huge amounts of weight, aren't THAT small
Some of them do have bigger frames than you'd think.
Many fight of the year candidates happen in these lowe weights, especially in Japan and it's sad so few talk about it. Can be worth investigating.

He was effective but I never enjoyed him apart from when he was beaten down in that war with Giovanni Segura. They had two fights and I think just one of them was really good.G0mez wrote:There's about 396 rounds of 4'11" Ivan Calderon fighting his way to unanimous decisions for those that suffer with insomnia.
I really don't go for that kind of defensive southpaw boxing. staying at strawweight for such a long time against some average competition until the end certainly made me sleepy when he boxed the undercard to big US fights I stayed up for.

The first one with Segura was fornicating brilliant! The rematch showed just how shot Ivan was :(Autobarn wrote:He was effective but I never enjoyed him apart from when he was beaten down in that war with Giovanni Segura. Re: Anyone else not have any interest in lighter weights?
I can watch most weights to be honest. A good matchup is a good matchup and that tends to be the problem at the lower weights as there are less contenders. I've seen some cracking lighter weight contests in the last 10-15 years though.
For me I actually dislike the heavyweight division most of the time, the optimum weight for me is 135-180, that's where there is a good mix of power and speed/skill in most of the fighters. The cruisers/heavys can be a bit plodding for the most part and the really light weights can be a bit like watching two guys having a row in a concentration camp.

Re: Anyone else not have any interest in lighter weights?
Interesting that with Gonzalez at his most highly regarded, with pound for pound supremacy thanks in part to Doug Fischer's internet campaign, and the attempts of HBO on their broadcasts to claim Gonzalez's superiority over all time great, countryman and his teacher Alexis Arguello, that Gonzalez now wants to be paid as the best pound for pound in the world, as Nicaragua's greatest. Jeopardising his rematches with Cuadras and also Estrada, who gave him his hardest fights en route to being a world champion in four weights.
Now the money is not enough for him to make these fights, he's discovered that he's basically quality support to Gennady Golovkin shows and says he'd rather go back to fighting in Japan (no shame in that, by the way) that's have these hard rematches for not enough money.

Re: Anyone else not have any interest in lighter weights?
I'm not interested in anything under cruiserweight and even cruiserweight itself barely interests me.
For me, those babyleagues are like the paralympics, you're not the best, you're the best of people with all kinds of limits.
Many people can't compete with you, not because they aren't any good, but simply because of their weight.
We all know AJ would easely beat Mayweather, like we all know Usain Bolt runs faster as I do. Somehow Usain Bolt is 195 centimer and I'm 185 cm, so maybe I'm a better runner anyway!

He should be paid more money when you look around But as we know the sport isn't fair like much of life TBHAutobarn wrote:Interesting that with Gonzalez at his most highly regarded, with pound for pound supremacy thanks in part to Doug Fischer's internet campaign, and the attempts of HBO on their broadcasts to claim Gonzalez's superiority over all time great, countryman and his teacher Alexis Arguello, that Gonzalez now wants to be paid as the best pound for pound in the world, as Nicaragua's greatest. Quick google search just now I have seen Gonzalez was paid $400k for the Cuadras fight and 250k for the Viloria fight. Both top quality opposition in the weight classes those fights took place at.
Look at Deontay Wilder got paid 1.4mill to face a punch bag in Arreola and just over $1million to fight spzilka who is not top class but decent.
Erislandy Lara has no value what so ever but was paid $1million to fight a waste of airtime v Delvin Rodrguez. He was also paid $750,000 to fight Martirosyna who was a top 10 154lber.
This highlights why the sport is pretty messed up and particularly why PBC have wasted about 600m
I'm all for him going to Japan though if it means he fights Inoue.

Asdfjkl is a troll, and a good one at that. He's been posting in character as the most irritating dumbo bellend you can imagine for at least a year. You'll see people losing their shit trying to reason with him. I think he's an alt account for somebody who's having a cracking time winding people up.DannyMCR wrote:Has the forum been taken over by idiots todayasdfjkl wrote:I'm not interested in anything under cruiserweight and even cruiserweight itself barely interests me.

But he is literally too stupid to be real.

No, it's just that asdfjkl's posts are contructed the same way he chose his username, randomly hitting keys.DannyMCR wrote:Has the forum been taken over by idiots todayasdfjkl wrote:I'm not interested in anything under cruiserweight and even cruiserweight itself barely interests me.

I sometimes wonder if guys like this just smash their heads against the keyboard in the hope of saying something that makes sense.
