List fighters with a better resume than Floyd Mayweather

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Some people here seem to believe that Mayweather doesn't belong in the top 30. I have some knowledge of history, maybe someone here can point me to 10 fighters who had a better resume than Floyd Mayweather. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Look, it very hard to compare. Especially the fighters from different eras. For example, Jimmy McLarnin had clearly better list of wins but also 11 losses. Holyfield's list of wins is better than Floyd's too, but he has 10 losses. Even if you take into account only his "in prime" losses, Evander has 3, while Floyd has 0 (at least officially).

you have got to ask who did Mclarnin and holyfield lose to ? in what fashion ? at which stages of their careers ? the "o" is seriously overated folks and ultimately means very little if you aint got some serious wins on your record

i'm a holyfield fan but i wouldn't say he has better wins than floyd, is a shot tyson better than an old oscar or riddick bowe better than JMM .i'd say cotto, mosley , canelo and manny are better than buster douglas or an old foreman
Tyson was so shot, he was favored to beat Holyfield. Only Corrales was favored over Floyd.

yeah but he got knocked out in the first place by two guys that shouldn't of had a chance .
I don't know about McCall, but when Lewis fought Rahman, he hardly trained, was overweight and had just filmed making Oceans Eleven. He was bound to lose.. But i'm not gonna knock Rahman, credit to him. Was some
Knockout. The rematch though was the real Lennox Lewis

A great achievement, but we're comparing him to Floyd.

Everyone at heavyweight has a chance. In the past, that's what separated it from the lighter classes is its unpredictablilty.

Sugar Ray Robinson fought more and beat better fighters than Floyd did. But he also lost some. The price you pay for unconditionally testing yourself against the best..

Look at where each guy was at the time Sugar or Floyd beat them. That's a critical factor.

Marquez was pulled up 2 weight classes to face a fresh, rested and rejuvenated Mayweather. Obviously a factor.
DLH was clearly over the hill only idiots thought plowing face first Mayorga was a sign he still had it. The big ring and heavyweight gloves are what made that such a great Floyd win.

Sugar's first loss was to a damn middleweight, who he beat weeks later and eventually 5 out of 6 times. Someone Floyd couldn't beat with a bat.

This is all subjective really. But I would have Sugar at #1, based on accomplishments not mistakes.

1) Bowe was much bigger than Holyfield and Floyd was much bigger than Marquez plus he cheated badly on the weigh in. So, yes, I'd say Bowe is definitely better win than Marquez.
2) Both Holyfield and Tyson were about equally slightly past their respective primes when they fought each other, while prime Floyd beat clearly past prime Oscar. Therefore, Tyson is better win than Oscar.
3) I think Qawi was arguably better than anyone in Floyd's resume. Pac was clearly past his prime, Marquez was cheated at the weigh in, and Canelo is so much worse than Qawi, that it would be completely ridiculuos to compare them.

tyson was favourite at the time but looking back he wasn't the same fighter that he was at 21 just as the manny that floyd beat wasn't the fighter he was at 28
Manny wasn't and neither was Oscar, Mosley, Even lower level opponents like Mitchell and Gatti were shells of themselves. Even Genaro Hernandez was on the end of his run. So if you hold Tyson against Holyfield, you have to do the same for Floyd's opponents as they have their flaws.

Canelo is a much more complete fighter than qawi I guess he's a better boxer than mosley and Oscar as well
Qawi was on the different level comparing to Canelo, who is probably the most overrated fighter in the history of boxing. I think Qawi was also more skilled than Oscar and Mosley, especially the versions that Floyd beat

In total, no but Qawi was prime. Oscar and Mosley were both old and coming off year layoffs.

Despite of his losses, LL has a better resume than FM. Lewis had more dangerous opponents, let me remind you - his last match was against Vitali, last Floyd's match was against Berto... :TU:

It's often forgotten that he had an heart issue and gassed just a year earlier against Bowe. So many were betting how many rounds he would last against Tyson.
