Bench Press and Squat States for a featherweight fighter

Post by Fitzy901 »

I know of a featherweight who walks around at 64/65kg and has a 130kg squat and a 105-110kg bench.

I thought that is ridiculously impressive, do you concur or is that quite common for that weight category.

It's plausible considering 5'5 130lb former NBA baller Earl Boykins had a 315lb bench max

Its pretty good in terms of a small aerobic athlete, but I wouldn't class it close to ridiculously impressive.

I coach a 61 kg female that squats 140 kilos.

She was a sprinter who has now converted to powerlifting. However I have coached several sub-65 women who have squatted over two times their bodyweight. Of course bench is much harder for them but the USAPL National champ in the 63 class pressed 139.5.

Yes but they don't have to do miles and miles of cardio and boxing training, they are concentrating on pure lifting.

You are absolutely correct, which is why I said it was pretty good for a small aerobic athlete. I still wouldn't class it as anything exceptional.

I believe ex unified world bantamweight champion Vic Darchinyan could max bench 140kg.

... This probably explains his 90% ko ratio and his apparent "no hands up" defense.

I've read that also. I've also heard stories on how much Kostya Tyszu and Shane Mosley could put up.

On a similar note, one Jack Culcay can perform an OAC.
