Daniel Geale - great career but the time has come

Post by Like a Boss »

IMO at least, it is time for Daniel Geale to make a good decision and sit back and enjoy the spoils of what he has earned and achieved, and even more importantly his growing family.

Whether he chooses to retire now or go on a bit longer, Daniel Geale will be remembered as one of the greats of Australian boxing and one of its greatest gentlemen.

All great innings must come to a close.

Winning the IBF title in Germany was special. Unifying it with the WBA title, again in Germany, was extra special.

Well played Gealey

Quinlan is a good fighter and it doesn't surprise me that he won but it does surprise me that he done it so easily. Full marks to Geale on a great career but it is definitely time for him to call it a day.

Pretty good career for Geale considering his limitations. Can hold his head high. don't want to see him in the ring again though. His chin is definitely gone.

I was stunned to hear this result but now it has sunk in, well done Renold.
To Daniel, one f the greatest recent boxers this country has produced. Green and Choc got the publicity whilst Gealey traveled the world and fought (and often beat) the best out there. I have great memories of the champ should he retire. His shut out of Daniel Dawson, his defeat of Sylvester and Sturm will be at the top. But also his losses. To GGG who no one wanted to fight but Daniel went in full on confidence, and imo the defining moment was when he dropped weight to fight Cotto - should never have happend. At 160 its a 50/50 fight. He didn't have a chance as a skeleton. Always carried himself and the sport with dignity and professionalism. Thanks mate. I hope the sport has served you and your family well financially because you deserve it.

Dennis Hogan :

“Whatever Daniel Geale decides, he will always be a legend in my eyes."

“He took time to train with me and pass on any advice I needed. He’s a pure gentleman".

"Australia should be so proud of. Best of luck mate, whatever you decide.”

Daniel Geale saying he is spending some time with his family and taking his time with the decision of whether to continue or not. Wise move. Make it a good one Daniel.

You mean with Mundine I assume?

Can't see it happening. These's hardly time to fit in before the Green bout and I expect Mundine and Green will either both retire after their fight, or perhaps, if Green wins, fight a decider. It's something that cannot be completely discounted no matter how much the idea upsets people.

I'd prefer Daniel Geale hangs his gloves up now and Green and Mundine after their fight. But that's for them to decide.

Well in the replay of the card last night they mentioned it to Renold and Daniel and Renold didn't seem to mind but Daniel seemed hesitant saying he was going to talk it over with his team, family.(if you meant the rematch with Quinlan)

The Dawson fight was the first time I saw him, great performance, also his stoppage of Karmazin was solid as well.
Of all his achievements, the one fight that always stuck out in my mind was the first Mundine fight, not many people knew who he was, I was pretty confident that he would do it though. Mundine was on a long winning streak if I remember correctly. The two gave us a Aussie classic. Geale lost a close one, but everyone knew who he was after that!
