Ruslan Chagaev Rejects Farewell Fight, Intends To Stay Retired

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Ruslan Chagaev (34-3-1, 21KOs) has no intention of coming back to the sport, according to his manager.

Back on July 25th, the WBA World Championships Committee issued a resolution to strip him of his WBA 'regular' heavyweight title - for not fulfilling his mandatory commitment within the specified time period.
Chagaev was reinstated as champion after getting knocked out by Lucas Browne of Australia in March. Browne failed a post-fight drugs test and the outcome was annulled by the sanctioning body - but the outcome has yet to be officially changed and continues to stand as a TKO win for Browne. Upon regaining the status of champion, he was immediately notified of his obligation to fight with mandatory challenger Fres Oquendo.

"Ruslan officially retired due to problems with his vision. We told Chagaev that we would could organize a good farewell fight, a rematch with Browne, but he's decided to finish his career, because health is more important," Dugazaev said.

Good for him, a smart decision. Second half of his career was as snake bit as any I've seen. He was a very good fighter before injuries and sickness derailed his career. Even after that he remained a staple in the top ten. I wish him luck in his future ventures.
