Pacquiao vs Jessie Vargas, who takes this and how ?

Post by apollo creed »

Jessie showed some good power in that right hand in Bradley and Ali fights. Pac is old and as we all know is susceptive to right hands. Also Jessie is the far bigger man in height and reach. Personally I'd not right off Vargas, he has a good chance to win.

So, how this fight goes ?

I feel like Pacquiao 12-0 is a reasonably safe bet.

Guy just beat the best Bradley we've ever seen 8-4 to 10-2.

Vargas shouldn't be a problem.

By the time Manny Pacquiao enters the ring against Jessie Vargas, he would only be a week shy of the seven year anniversary of his most recent knockout victory.

And due to the level of domination Timothy Bradley enjoyed over Jessie Vargas when they fought, it’s really hard to pick anything other than a wide unanimous decision victory for the Filipino Hall-of-Famer.

You have a math deficiency? 8-10.

And anyone with eyes saw Bradley get spanked and then admit that was the best Pacquiao he faced. :TU:

Double that. I was one of the few people who thought the first 2 fights were close.
Both looked very sloppy throughout. Little landed. But Manny just got more credit.

However, the 3rd fight was the best Bradley, and Manny was just simply better.

Fight was competitive, because Bradley was sharp, but Manny won at least 8 rounds.

Pacquiao choosing the light hitting Vargas over a real challenge like Crawford shows more in terms of lack of confidence than anything on team Pac's part. Vargas is not an elite boxer. Its not like Manny needs a tune-up after a long layoff. Crap fight, but hope it backfires on team Pac. Not like it is a victory lap like Floyd vs Berto. Actually, I think Pac vs Berto would be better than this. At least Berto can punch.

Pac should win a comfortable decision.

Crawford is in a different weight class. Vargas has the title Manny had for 7 years, at welterweight. Neither are huge draws, but it makes far more sense to go after his old title. Yes there is less risk stylistically, but Vargas is no pushover.

I have no problem with this fight. Pac is giving a youngster a big boost in name recognition. Vargas is not elite but he has consistently improved.

I would have no problem with FMJ coming back and giving a young pro like Vargas an opportunity.

Vargas isn't a light-hitter. His KO ratio isn't great, but he's hurt many guys who took him the distance, had no problems buzzing Ali one fight ago, and of course in his only loss had Bradley stumbling around.

Agree, Vargas is dangerous with his right hand and he's improved as a fighter. Don't know why but I've the feeling Vargas is gonna be willing to take a few punches to land his overhand right on Pac's button like Marquez did.

Vargas figured something out late in the Bradley fight. He waited to long to start throwing in that fight and he fell way behind. In the Ali fight, he came out from minute one throwing and I think Vargas is a very dangerous fighter right now. I'm putting money on Vargas and I'm betting on a stoppage of some kind. And fat Arum will count his money and feel just fine with throwing Manny to the young lions coming up. I'm sure if Manny wins though, he'll schedule the Manny Crawford fight next. Just so he could get as much out of Manny's last fights as possible. Scumbag.
