Sky Bet has the following betting odds (implied probability/fractional) for the outcome of the Ward-Kovalev bout:
• Andre Ward = 60% (4/6)
• Sergey Kovalev = 48% (11/10)
• Draw = 4% (25/1)

So if you placed a successful £10 bet, this could potentially yield the following returns: Ward = £16.67; and Kovalev = £21.00.

I don’t think those betting odds are unreasonable and are generally in line with the market.

If Ward beats Kovalev in a 10-2 or 9-3 type affair which I don't personally see happening; Ward definietly puts himself above Calzaghe imo. I know there's still a lot of people that think Calzaghe was/is better than Ward but I'd find it hard to have Calzaghe above Ward in those circumstances.

Clearly and relatively cleanly winning 7 rounds against Kovalev and not getting stopped would make Ward p4p #1 which Calzaghe never was.

True. Although to be fair to Calzaghe aswell; he was fighting in the era of Mayweather so becoming P4P no1 was harder in those circumstances. I think Kovalev winning this fight puts him above Calzaghe anyway (personally I've always thought Ward was better anyway although Joe was very good in his own right aswell) but if he was to truly dominate Kovalev there can be no question in my eyes over who was the better fighter.

These defensive genius types almost never lose. I can't pick against Ward.

Kov has to go in throwing a high volume of punches and just outhustle him for 7 of the 12 rounds. Like Maidana tried in the first Floyd fight.
If he stands off wary of counters his output will fall and Ward's won.

I expect 9-3 or 8-4 to Ward...maybe even closer but Ward will win his rounds clearer.

I guess it all depends on how Ward stands up to Kovalev's power aswell. He's going to get hit with something big at some point in the fight; Kovalev is too good to not land some significant shots at some point in the bout. He's not just a big puncher, he's a a decent boxer in his own right. Not as good as Ward but still pretty handy.

I agree.

Ward probably already has the better resume too, but this would make it very tough to argue. A head-to-head would've been very interesting: Joe had those quick hands, endless stamina, and a workrate that most found tough to deal with, but Ward has the right tools to slow opponents down and significantly reduce their output.

Only way is due to a technical decision. Certainly won't be a true KO or TKO. Ward isn't gonna sit down on his shots in this fight. He's gonna look to score and get the F outta danger.

That's it. Nobody is going 12 rounds with kovalev without getting hit by something. Nobody. And I think there is enough evidence to suggest ward can't deal with it.
It's a kovalev stoppage folks. Was confident at the start, just as confident now.

"Everything else equal" ??? How about Kovalev being 3 levels above Ward in punching power. Let's see if Ward can move his arms well after 8-9 rounds if his chin and liver survive for that long.
Power is not what is going to win this fight. Power is so overrated anyhow :)

Tell that to Kovalev's and Golovkin's opponents. Many of them were hoping that power is overrated, and how did they end ? In a few rounds, Ward's whole upper body will be hurting badly, and by round 9 (if he survives that long) he will lose any desire for the fight to continue.

Kovalev arguably has more power, yes, but Ward will find a way to nullify it much like Floyd has done to so many big punchers. He is not at the level of Floyd as far as defense, but in ring smarts I would say he is near or at the top of any current boxer. Ward's power is also under-rated, and you are a fool to think power alone will decide this fight. It seems the Krusher bandwagon folks are beginning to fade. They will show up if Krusher wins though.
By the way GGG has a lot more than just power. Even casual fans should know that. I am still looking forward to GGG vs Andrade or Lara. I think one of those two have the best chance of beating GGG. Canelo may not win but will give him all he wants.

Kovalev has a lot more than just power himself though. I'd actually put him more in the 'boxer' category than I would Golovkin. He also happens to punch bloody hard aswell. If Ward pulls it off he has to be P4P No1. Well whoever wins this should be p4p no1 imo.

I just rematched the Kovalev- Chilemba fight. I know it's a fight where a lot of people thought Kovalev got exposed somewhat but when I watched it again- whilst Sergey was made to look a bit silly at times in terms of hitting air- Chilemba wasn't landing anything of significance himself.

He was making Kovalev miss at times but not landing many counters. If Ward tries to replicate that I don't know how he'll win the fight because if makes Kovalev miss but doesn't land anything noteworthy in return its still gonna look like Kovalev is the one pushing the fight with Ward not engaging. He'll just end up getting out worked to a points loss.

If Ward does pull it off its gonna be a hell of an accomplishment imo. Kovalev imo is by far the best and most dangerous opponent he's ever fought and I say that as a pretty big Froch fan.

Ward is far more insidious with his illegal tactics than some give him credit for.

Sure, in a fair fight within the rules Kovalev KOs Ward.

But Kovalev has been cut before (over both eyes against Agnew), and the Son of Goat is very good with his hard head. Ward is an expert at clamping his opponents' arms. Depending upon who it is, the ref will ignore Ward's fouling and be on Kovalev's back the entire fight - Sergey will be fighting two men in there. The Las Vegas judges will be there for Ward if the fight goes the distance.

The euros are already planting the seeds of excuse for when Ward wins.

First it was he's never going to actually fight Kovalev. Heard this for months. And months.

Now the goal posts will shift to - he will cheat.

Predictable. And humorous.

If he wins, it will be with the caveat that he cheated and they bough the ref. Prove me wrong. Tell me you won't act like a little whiny girl. I dare you.

Arguably??? Ward's power underrated ??? What decent opponent has Ward stopped beside the dehydrated Dawson? Kovalev is a very good boxer himself, and his trainer is well aware of Ward's legal and illegal tactics, so you will be surprised how seemingly easy Kovalev will win.

The only real chances Ward has is inflicting a bad cut/concussion with his head or Kovalev DQ'ed, for example for hitting a back of Ward's head when it is down below Kova's waist.

Compare the impact Williams and Seals had on Rodriguez to that which Ward had; look at Miranda being KTFO by Bute and dropped loads of times, yet never being in serious trouble against Ward; see Green being terribly hurt by Donny McCrary yet never experiencing anything like that during 12 rounds against Ward; consider how Groves blew out Paul Smith in 2, while Ward couldn't even drop Smith.Further, his only real stoppage of note is a 10th round TKO over someone who was flattened in 76 seconds one fight later.

Ward isnt a Paulie puncher, but he doesnt have much pop and is a much lighter hitter than Kov; if youre going to say Kov is 'arguably' the harder puncher (as if it's not clear) you might as well say that Ward is 'arguably' tighter defensively.

I guess we will see if Ward decides to really let his hands go. If Ward KO's Kovalev, will that mean he is the harder puncher?

If Kovalev can't KO a 50 yr old BHop, no way in hell is he going to KO Ward.

Hopkins is durable as hell though even if he is getting on near prehistoric
