Amir Khan reveals he will be out until next summer and targets Brook, Garcia
Amir Khan says he is unlikely to fight again until next summer but is hoping to put on a show in Britain against either Danny Garcia or Kell Brook.
The former world light-welterweight champion has told ESPN that surgery, which involved grafting part of his hip bone onto his right hand, will have kept him out of action for a year by the time of his return, and that the injury has restricted his punching for most of his professional career.
"I've got about five fights left. I'm going back down to welterweight," Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) said. "I'll box again in the summer and I want to give the UK fans a fight -- it's been a while since I've boxed there, and they deserve one now.

Wonder if he is going out to miami for a bit

I really don't care about the Brook fight. Kell knocks him out. I think pretty much everybody that is sensible recognises that.

I'd agree, given their respective performances against Canelo/GGG, I'd say Brook has very little to fear from Khan, and would probably beat him like a drum.

Khan would befuddle Brook at 147 and win a clear decision.
Brook would batter Khan at 154.

I don't think Khan is smart enough to befuddle Brook at all. He's predictable, his only real asset is his handspeed, he can't really hit, and he doesn't have any tactical nous. His athletic gifts are enough to overcome lower tier fighters, and some at world level, but I don't think he's the boxing brain to defeat Brook.Taansend wrote:Khan would befuddle Brook at 147 and win a clear decision.

Brook was obviously outgunned by GGG, but he gave a good account of himself, and landed some pretty serious shots on GGG, shots that Khan would not be able to take.

I concur. Whilst Brook doesn't have the speed that Khan possesses- he has a better boxing brain and Khan's power wouldn't faze him in the slightest either I believe.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I don't think Khan is smart enough to befuddle Brook at all. Speed like power, is often overrated as an asset, timing and accuracy are far more important than either attribute, as you can't land anything without them.lefty wrote:I concur. Kell's economy is far better and he lands far more significant shots, more often than Khan, who flails about a lot, but lands little of significance.
Re: Amir Khan reveals he will be out until next summer and targets Brook, Garcia
Speed AND/OR power are both massively important when utilised the right way. Tyson & Nas both showed us that power without skill can only take you so far (after they neglected their boxing skills).jamesmcdonnell wrote:Speed like power, is often overrated as an asset, timing and accuracy are far more important than either attribute, as you can't land anything without them.lefty wrote:I concur. But I think that Khan at 147 will be one step ahead of Brook all the way to the final bell.
Unfortunately I doubt if we'll see this fight happen - or see Brook at 147 again.

Well, opinions are like arseholes - we all have one (except my younger brother who died shortly after birth, but that's another story) as you say, we probably will not find out - I doubt Khan would take the fight, unless there was a fortune on offer.Taansend wrote:Speed AND/OR power are both massively important when utilised the right way. Khan's career is now in it's death throes, I think he'll gradually fade from prominence now, he found his level, which wasn't a bad one, but not quite good enough to ever be top dog.
Re: Amir Khan reveals he will be out until next summer and targets Brook, Garcia
Khans biggest problem is believing he's a bigger superstar than he actually is. The fame he received at 17 seems to have clouded his judgement. I have a lot of respect for him as a man but as a boxer he's been guilty of looking ahead to superfights instead of focusing on the task at hand & fighting more often. I feel he could have done so much more.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, opinions are like arseholes - we all have one (except my younger brother who died shortly after birth, but that's another story) as you say, we probably will not find out - I doubt Khan would take the fight, unless there was a fortune on offer.Taansend wrote:Speed AND/OR power are both massively important when utilised the right way. Either way good luck to him & I'm also looking forward to see what Kel can do at 154. It might well be the most competitive division out there. There's half a dozen excellent boxers who are not stars meaning high risk for little reward.

Yes, I think Khan's has been unable to adjust to the new reality, which is that he is no longer the darling of the media he once was, and he's not in the public consciousness he was when he turned pro.
He has squandered some of his prime I feel, he must have earned very well, but his legacy might have looked a fair bit better had he fought more often, rather than waiting for one last huge payday.
I think he'll probably retire within a few years, he has other interests, and has made a fortune.

Agreed.boxingknockout wrote:I'm rather bored by khan. He just seems past it from an interest point
He's spent so much time lying idle & chasing fights against people he has no right to share the ring with, whilst swerving big fights in a talent rich division.
Now he's going to be idle for another extended period, although, to be fair to him, he actually has a legitimate excuse this time.
The WW division is passing him by rapidly & by the time he returns, very few people will give a damn.

Yeah the only, and I mean only interesting fight is Brook, and that'll be because of the hype / build up. Likely Kell will add another highlight reel Ko to Khan's showreel.Syntax Error wrote:Agreed.boxingknockout wrote:I'm rather bored by khan. He just seems past it from an interest point

Is Khan actually serious about boxing now? I couldn't really give two shits about him anymore to be honest! He should just wrap it and disappear.
Re: Amir Khan reveals he will be out until next summer and targets Brook, Garcia
He really has become irrelevant now ,, and he will not face Brook the excuse is already there , it seems common knoledge that Brook will go up and Khan said he's settling on welter , so thats the end of that one , Brook will say he's not losing weight and Khan will refuse to go up weight , just another great british dodge ... Wait for Brook v bjs , would'nt mind seeing that one
