haven't rewatched the fight but remember thinking hardy had won at the time, don't know if canizales was affected by the travel or something but was a different animal in the rematch, an excellent performance from hardy nonetheless

Both Canizales brothers performed badly in England. See Gabby vs Duke McKenzie also.

Hardy did well to get up from that body shot, taking away Canizales' eye and plastering him with right hands.

Canizales v Hardy was a classic war, but Hardy won it and Canizales - as enjoyable an offensive fighter to watch as he was - was way overrated by the lunatic American media. There was no way he was #5 p4p in the world neither was he the "next Duran."

When Canizales moved up to 122 he was actually beaten fairly soundly by two guys who'd also moved from 118-122, Vazquez and Jones, so the excuse he lost to bigger men is nonsense.

The Texas conditions affected Billy more than the Wearside conditions affected Canizales.

Terrific effort from Hardy and if it had been an old 15 rounder he's have probably got it but i agreed with the judge who had Canizales winning 115-113,i thought he had been busier with his power punches, more accurate and his shots had more of an effect on Billy than vice versa,Hardy was great with the jab though and was winning the round he was put down in and he finished strongly,Canizales was busted up pretty bad by the end

Good scrap,i'll watch the rematch tomorrow

Cracking KO scored by Canizales in the Hardy rematch, came out of nowhere really, the fight was taking on a similar pattern of the 1st fight when Orlando started off fast before Billy grew into more as the fight wore on,Canizales did score a KD in the 3rd with a lovely left hook,Hardy as i said improved and had more success but Canizales pulled a beauty of a KO in the 8th,a sort of jolting left hand, again though it was a brave effort from Hardy

Hardy vs Canizales

1. 9 - 10 - Canizales. Close round but cleaner punches from Canizales. Hardy's best work landing partially on gloves or not quite getting through
2. 10 -10. Periods of success for both men, couple nice punches landed by Hardy late and good footwork by Canizales boxing Hardy in. Can't agree with Watt saying Hardy shouldn't use the right, some of his best work was one twos and get out of range
3. 10 - 9 - Hardy. Maybe Watt was right  Some really good control using the jab in this round.
4. 9 - 10 - Canizales. Good effective aggression from Canizales. Nice blend of styles and momentum swing back and forth, shaping up nicely
5. 10 - 9 - Hardy, another swing back to Billy, better round and solid shots landed as he backs Canizales up in this round
6. 9 - 10 Canizales. Cracking round, Hardy started strong with straight shots but Canizales moves so well and finds angles, good at finding that last shot on the way back out from an attack
7. 9 - 10 - Canizales. Slightly quicker to the punch and always wanted to land that extra blow in the exchanges. Couple rights from Hardy but not enough
8. 9 -10 - Canizales. Action slowed a little, lots of single shots. Hardy tried to get on his bike but can't deter Canizales coming forward
9. 8 - 10 - Canizales. Landed a good early body shot. Hardy did well to absorb a few more afterwards and actually come back into the round
10. 10 - 9 - Hardy. Very even round, punch for punch. Hardy turning Canizales head with a couple right the only thing that caught my eye
11. 10 - 9 - Hardy. Started at a fierce pace but Hardy better second half, capilatising on Canizales lack of vision
12. 10 - 9 - Hardy. Another good round for Hardy,

113 - 115 Canizales

Good fight and great engines on these lads. Fought at a good pace and looked like they could have kept it going for another 3 rounds. The eye injury probably played a big part in Hardy winning the last 3 on my card, as Canizales had started to pick up a bit of steam after the half way point.
But as I said in another thread, you can't use an eye injury as an excuse, it was caused by being punched and that's the name of the game.

Good fight but Canizales looked the slightly better fighter to me.

You've got to give Holmes credit,he went hell for leather after being down twice badly already but Hardy landed a peach of a left and after going down again Brian was spent

A good competitive bout, but I thought that Canizales won it pretty clearly in the end.
