has there been a fall out with boxing news and bocksnation?

Post by veriton »

just wondering what's going on because the last two weeks the trade paper has totally ignored the two live shows on bocksnation.

first they didnt bother with a preview for the ryan walsh fight, a european title fight and live on tv. now this week they've blanked a live show with jamie cox, paul butler and luke blackledge among many others.

im a subscriber to both and think it's a poor effort when they dont support each other, so is this a real rift or has someone just dropped a bollock?

I'm a subscriber to both but hadn't even noticed. I know FW had spoken about plans to launch his own boxing magazine.
If boxing news are doing that then it is an absolute disgrace. They are there to report on what's happening regardless of who is promoting.

FW stopped BN from covering fights before, going back a few years, I'm certain.

Maybe need to bring down the righteous indignation down a little bit!

They should of done a write up for the Ryan Walsh fight last week but the show this weekend doesn't deserve one. Completely one sided top two fights on the bill.

I no longer work for Boxing News - just thought it worth mentioning that the Walsh preview (link above) was published online and signposted in the print magazine. Nothing to see here, imo

There is imo. I still bother to buy the magazine - mostly for the previews* for a bet, but I won't bother if this continues to be the case.
I didn't think to look online for more previews - they should cover live TV shows in the magazine end of.

*I still remember your first pick of Monroe pts - got £100 @ 14s and another £250 @ 12/1 - thank you Danny ! :TU:

You're welcome. I make a small amount each month from boxing bets now. In-play and cash-out are goldmines. Anyway, my comment wasn't a defence of the editorial strategy, merely pointing out this isn't the first time a preview has gone online so it's not a feud with allegedly I don't think.

Lol yeah I was just saying there are precedents for this treatment of content that have nothing to do with feuds.

i pay for the magazine, i expect everything to be in the magazine. not interested in the website. the reason i still pay for a print subscription to boxing news is so that i dont have to wade through all the crap online. pretty bad form i think. two live shows on tv and boxing news doesnt have previews for either!

I wasn't commenting on the editorial merits (not my place) - just making it clear that putting selected previews online is relatively common and not an indication of any feud.

Nice of you to ask. I still work for Newsquest - who own Boxing News - but on their portfolio of insurance publications. Sounds dull I know but the nuts and bolts of the job itself are largely the same - only with three titles instead of one. I also manage Touchdown, the NFL mag I launched for Newsquest back in May. The second issue is out on pre-order now.

thanks for the answer. but it's a bit like paying for a meal at a restuarant and then before they bring it to your table the waiter tells you that you have to go across the street to a food bank to pick it out for yourself among all the dossers feasting for free.

first week i thought it was a bollock dropped but then when the cox bill was blanked (and that wasnt even online) then just wondered if it was something else. it used to be every fight every punch every week.

Good stuff mate :TU: used to love fighting fit magazine back in the day for the sports science stuff when I was fighting and boxing was my life but used to worry about the potential market for it so treated every publication like it was the last.

Got to be honest, if I was editor I'd not have previewed the Cox bill either. How many Goodwin, Wood, Helliett shows superior to that aren't afforded a preview but no one complains? Sad really.

All a matter of opinion of course but I think there were enough names on there, who will be in big fights in the next 12 months, to warrant a preview. I appreciate knowing a bit more from the experts before I sit down to watch live boxing on TV

Fair point but all one-sided fights, no major belts at stake. I'd rather another page of a quality feature.
