Mikey Garcia, fresh off his return victory, will challenge Zlaticanin for his WBC World lightweight title

Dejan Zlaticanin will defend his WBC World title against Mikey Garcia in a battle of unbeaten lightweights on January 28th. The MGM Grand in Las Vegas will host the fight, which will serve as the co-feature to the much-anticipated rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz.

“I’m fighting Mickey Garcia on January 28,” said Zlaticanin via social media. “My first wish came true in June of this year when I became a world champion, and my second wish is to box at the MGM Grand Arena.”

Zlaticanin, a thirty-two year-old native of Montenegro, will be making his first defense of the green belt he acquired in a vacant title bout against Franklin Mamani in June of this year.

I really like this fight, Zlat brings the kind of style that can give Garcia problems, IMO

One of the top guys at 135. Has wins over Petrov,Burns, Redkach. A bit small but strong, well schooled, aggressive and heavy handed

Dejan is good. But not good enough to beat Mikey, who is easily the best opponent he will have faced.

:TU: Hope so.

Boxrec says he's a little better than Burns, who is far below Mikey.
It's a real good 2nd fight after a 2 year layoff.

Sorry, I just think Mikey is great. He needs name fights. 135 is a wasteland right now.
Got some names at 130, but I think Garcia handles them all, including Lomachenko.

I would LOVE Garcia VS Crawford.

Well chosen opponent from Mikey Garcia, he surely knows where he is going to step on and won't do it without being certain that he came back to be among the great ones again. Bit tough test for Mikey that IMO wins KO/TKO 8th round.

Burns is Dejan's best win.

Burns is levels below Mikey Garcia. Levels.

What is Mikey's best win? Salido? Martinez (who dropped Mikey and lost to Burns)?

I like Mikey here, but Zlat is quite arguably his most dangerous opponent too and I imagine that he'll at least have some success. Mikey was hurt in his two fights right before the layoff, and was very easy to hit last time out.

Yep, Salido beat 1-0 Lomachenko and right after that lost to Burns's victim Rocky Martinez. Good fighter, but I think Zlat at 135 is more dangerous.

Besides good match in which Lomachenko learnt a little about in-fight boxing, definitely was a robbed match. Hi-tech was superior in almost 60% of the entire fight with much more power punches accuracy*. To not say the disrespect of dirty Salido for Loma with "6+" low blows without penalty for it and much higher weight over...

Lomachenko won clearly rounds 1,5,7,10,11,12 and maybe 8.

*Just to say 1 factor (and maybe the most important "Hard and Clean Punches") of 4 factors of how the judge score (Effective Aggression, Ring Generalship, Defense, Hard and Clean Punches).

Good fight. I guess this means Mikey will be fighting at 135 and not 140. Hopefully after this, he fights someone in the Barthelemy/Flanagan/Linares/Crolla class.

He already is. I'd strongly fancy Zlat to beat Crolla and maybe Linares and Flanagan as well. Garcia himself is another story admittedly - in or around the top ten p4p during 2013-14. Still, Zlat has a marauding style and should at the very least test Garcia's real willingness to suceed these days.

The Best Lightweight in the World at the moment I think. You're about to know who he is. Win or Lose he's gonna give Mikey hell.

Zlat is pretty much on the level of those guys. I dont get how you could watch Flanagan's most recent fights, to single out one of those names, and see someone a class above Zlat.

Zlat is legit but a close win over Burns does not indicate to me that he's the best guy in the division. I view him as similar to Ray Beltran, which is not such a bad thing, but not the best of the best either.

I don't think any of those guys have necessarily indicated that they are "the best guy" at the weight either - Barthelemy's resume is better than the rest but not really by all that much. I wouldn't say wins over Perez, Barrosa, Murray and Rees (with a stoppage loss and a draw with Derry Matthews) for Crolla or wins over Crolla, Mitchell and Arakawa (with stoppage losses to Thompson and DeMarco) for Linares are necessarily achievements that completely overshadow wins over Burns (not really all that close), Petrov and Redkach.

The me Rances is just about #1 with Zlat, Crolla, Linarez, Flanagan, Easter Jr and Commey all part of a closely knit chasing pack.

True, it is a tight pack with several fighters who could be ranked in any order.

Hopefully we will start to see more of these guys fight each other so we can get some clarity. Sadly Barthelemy has nothing scheduled and Flanagan is likely to fight a bum next. I'm not too angry at the prospect of a Linares/Crolla rematch, though.

Was a big, big fan of Mikey despite him not being a UK based fighter and like many here will be rooting for him to do well. I was gutted about the lay off as he was shaping up as one of the best in the sport.

Really interested to see how his career pans out now, as this is a huge test for him.

Zlaticanin, as others have stated, is the real deal and one of the toughest fights he could have taken on but Garcia, close to or at his best, wins it by decision.

ANOTHER REASON WHY BOXING IS A JOKE.

Mikey Garcia sits on a sofa for two years, comes back and beats some tomato can on an undercard and he gets a title shot in the next fight. How the heck does Garcia deserve a title shot? This sport makes no sense most of the time.

Totally agree with you... A lot of people have forgotten how good Garcia really is. One of the best all around fighters in the biz.

Dejan is definitely a good fighter. But, Garcia is an exceptional fighter. I expect him to shut Dejan down similarly to the way he shut Salido down.
