People who still defend Frankie Gavin

Post by TheLeprechaun »

Heard lots of people STILL defending the lad and saying he would have made weight but for the board etc.

He failed TWO check weigh ins in the lead up to the fight.

He looks overweight at the weigh in and fleshy.

Yet some people still defend the lad. I've always wondered why. One of the things that has been most annoying has been the constant defending of Gavin on forums. He has really dined off that world amateur win. Overweight in the olympics, some completely dull and dud performances, not making weight in the pros etc. Fighting outside the ring. You can go on.

There are no excuses any more. The lad was saying in an interview that he would go down in weight if he loses to Eggington so he knows he can make a lower weight. He looks well overweight here. Just compare his body to Eggingtons

I agree he could easily lose 9lbs.

He posts here and to be fair to him he always comes across a decent guy but this is a shambles and he must know it! I hope he gets beaten and beaten well tonight. He has a gift that's been taken for granted! Hopefully Eggington sees him off and moves onwards but I still think Gavin wins on points.

To me the lad is unprofessional, its not the first time he has failed to make weight is it? Should take a percentage of his wage and give it to eggington who still put the graft in and made weight like proper professionals do

Yeah as a pro he's flattered to deceive but he has a natural ability that if he matched it with hard work would've taken him far! He does all the basics effortless!

Frankie Gavin could of, and should of been somebody in boxing. But in the grand scheme of thing hes nothing. He stepped up to euro level got beaten by Bundu. Stepped up to world and got destroyed by Brook. Now he moved back down to domestic level which seems to be his level, he usually just about wins at this level but struggles and never looks good (Witter, Woodhouse, Skeete). Hes clearly should be at 140 but obviously does not care that much, does not want to live the life and make the necessary sacrifices. Missing weight is just the cherry on the cake.

Not too many people defend Gavin anymore imo, but there's definitely a general sense of frustration with the way his career has panned out. I really thought he'd kick on after the Vassell fight; he put in a great performance that night.

Boxing IQ wise - Gavin always had it but I don't think he's ever really hit hard enough to make a truly successful transition into the pro's. So with that said- dedication seems a part of his failure to be top level pro but also that lack of power I think.

Gavin's style was very much suited to the amateurs and it seems he is not the most committed fighter

Probs earned more than he deserved baring in mind his performances/potential/pedigree. He probs got a big sign on bonus from Warren when he was considered the most promising of the Olympians he signed (Degale and Saunders were the other two). I remember him turning down a big offer from golden boy to stay in the UK. That could have been just what he needed. No distractions just boxing and top sparing on the west coast. You just look at 147 at world level.....Thurman, Porter, Garcia, Pac-man, Crawford (soon to move to 147), Spence, Brook, Khan and Vargas. I struggle to see Gavin winning a round against any of these guys never mind the fight. Its 140 or bust for him IMO but my guess is its too late.

He got homesick in Manchester. Going over there and impressing in the gym could do wonders for him. He's just stagnating here unfortunately.

I can never understand how someone can get homesick when they're about 2 hours away from their hometown. It's not like he moved to Australia ffs.

OK, so I'm an Eggington fan and Jon Pegg is absolutely top man. But three pounds is going to make zero difference on fight night IMO. It also means that Gavin probably hasn't been training properly. Sam is going to win this one easy IMO. Nothing to see here, move on.

I like the way Eggington's tattoo merges into his beard. Must have taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get that lined up so well. Gavin looks like a coke head.

If he has actually said that he will come down in weight if he loses- then that says it all really. All those years when he said there was no way he could get below welter weight were BS then

I was really hoping Gavin would do well and go right to the top when he turned over. Always thought he should have been down to 140 and that he probably would cut at some point but never happened and constantly underdelivered.

I think the defending of him stopped a couple of years ago
