Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
The fact of the matter is that they can't get a decent opponent.
The big U.K names are potential stadium fights next year, to much short notice for Wlad in promotional terms in a fight of that magnitude.
The first choice was always Pulev who's a decent opponent but he stupidly priced himself way out.
I don't mind Price. It will be a easy night for AJ but at least he's a opponent that crosses over for the casual and increases the level of hype for his big fights next year.
The only thing that's annoyed me is the level of BS from everyone. As soon as Pulev said NO it was always going to be Price. The Wlad story wasn't needed as it was never going to happen.

Will Joshua carry him for a few rounds? A one round blow out does nothing for Joshua's progression. Although Molina and Jennings would be a very hard PPV sell indeed. The opponent needs to be British or to have a selling point.

Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
On paper Price would be AJ's toughest opponent, but never judge a book by its cover. I don't think Price offers anything for this fight. If it happens I just hope joshua doesn't get complacent and think he can just turn up to win. I dont know how they would sell the fight but im sure it would sell out easy enough. What a state heavyweight boxing is in at the moment

Carrying any boxer is very dangerous, I expect AJ to dispatch within the first 2 minutes. If Price's chin wasnt suspect and Price had a bit of courage itmight have turned out to be a decent match up.keithmoonhangover wrote:Will Joshua carry him for a few rounds? It's not even about the risk, at this short notice, fighting Haye now is a missed opportunity. That has a stadium fight written all over it. Outside of Fury, this is probably the biggest fight out there for Joshua. Hearn is his promoter, you think he's going to waste his biggest pay day off as a last minute replacement?Spiker wrote:Haye would jump at the chance as is always in shape these days. Fast Eddie wont risk it though I wouldn't have thought, as there is a realistic chance Haye might hit himRob3_142 wrote:Okay, here's a question. Just over 6 weeks until fight night, who would you realistically pick for Joshua to fight at this late stage?
I get it, Price is completely outmatched against Joshua, it won't last very long, and I most certainly will not be paying to watch it. But who else is there at the moment?
Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
I wonder if the IBF would allow him a keep-busy fight without his title on the line, similar to the Danny Garcia/WBC situation?
Hearn would love it.
Hearn would love it.

Agreed. But whether he is terrified or not, he clearly possesses power and punches a lot harder than someone who has hurt Anthony Joshua. Which is what the person I was replying to was questioning.lefty wrote:That's all well and good but if he's too cautious to let his hands go- it wouldn't matter if he was a heavyweight incarnation of Julian Jackson.elephant man wrote:It's fair to say he punches harder than Dillian Whyte. He doesn't need world class power to hurt AJ. He will be the bigger puncher AJ has faced. Whether we think he's rubbish or not.TheCobra wrote:PS Price definitely doesn't have world class power. Who on his resume gives anyone the right to claim that???
He beat a bunch of aged or fat bums, he was the classic Maloney heavyweight fed a diet of bums for 10-12 fights to gain some easy KOs and some Sky hype. Is he even much better than Tom Dallas nowadays?

Molina can punch too. Is Price Better than him? Not sure myself. Least Molina will give it a go.Spiker wrote:Yeah valid pointRob3_142 wrote:It's not even about the risk, at this short notice, fighting Haye now is a missed opportunity. Who wins in Molina and Price? Is it the same outcome as vs. Teper?elephant man wrote:Molina can punch too. Is Price Better than him? Not sure myself. Least Molina will give it a go.Spiker wrote:Yeah valid pointRob3_142 wrote:

I think so. Molina wobbled both Arreola and Wilder early and he's not afraid to let the bombs go.Rob3_142 wrote:

But Arreloa knocked Molina out in a round .... For me that says it all.the_doctor wrote:I think so. Molina wobbled both Arreola and Wilder early and he's not afraid to let the bombs go.Rob3_142 wrote:

Price at least these days is a lot bigger and has half a chance. I cant think of a way Molina could win in truth
Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
Has Price actually improved since Teper? I mean I know he's bigger, but has he learned to protect that chin of his?Spiker wrote:But Arreloa knocked Molina out in a round .... Don't get me wrong, he hasn't grown a few inches taller, but he's almost 30 lb's heavier than when he fought Teper.jamesmcdonnell wrote:He's bigger? No, I thought a growth spurt was unlikely, however, 30 lbs is a lot of timber.Rob3_142 wrote:Don't get me wrong, he hasn't grown a few inches taller, but he's almost 30 lb's heavier than when he fought Teper.jamesmcdonnell wrote:He's bigger? Is he, Christ, he was a unit before!Rob3_142 wrote:

His conditioning didn't look great when he first turned pro, quite flabby and poor muscle tone.
Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
I wouldn't say he was better. He still very seldom uses the jab and that should be his main weapon.jamesmcdonnell wrote:No, I thought a growth spurt was unlikely, however, 30 lbs is a lot of timber.Rob3_142 wrote:Don't get me wrong, he hasn't grown a few inches taller, but he's almost 30 lb's heavier than when he fought Teper.jamesmcdonnell wrote:

Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
If it is Price, he has to think about how he's going to go about this problem. If he gets into a boxing match, Joshua will pick him off with ease. I see a very similar outcome to the Martin fight, countering a few over hand rights and putting Price on his backside. However if he comes out all guns a blazin' there's a chance he might catch Joshua and put him on the defensive. If he can make the fight scrappy and fight intelligently, he could make it difficult for Joshua, but I'm not convinced Price has the ring craft to do it.

Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
Molina would stop Price imo.
As for Price being bigger than he was? Means nothing, certainly not from a positive angle. Fighters carrying 25lbs more than they need to rarely improve as a consequence! It's no more than a confidence tactic. He and his team are trying to convince Price that adding more weight means he'll suddenly lose his glass chin.
I'd genuinely prefer Molina or Jennings. At the very least we can compare how Joshua does against either of them to how Wilder and Wlad got on etc

Either way Arreola did him in a round so anything he does is a let down if its not over in a round
Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
You see the same rabbit in the headlights with Price as you did with Audley. A real fear of getting hit in the face. AJ will throw some quick shots and spark him out within three rounds.
Eddie Hearn is an absolute disgrace, he is handling his fighters so poorly that I start wanting them to lose when I shouldn't do.

Don't you start as well, you know as well as everyone that they'd invested in a fight with Klitchko which fell through for reasons beyond their control. I'd love to know what you'd be doing different in the same situation.Batley18 wrote:You see the same rabbit in the headlights with Price as you did with Audley. Re: Feeling of dread - Price is going to get Joshua fight
Perhaps, but he took Wilder a few. Thats a more relative comparison as he is a belt holder, and Jennings has recently fought both Wlad and Ortiz, two elite heavies.Spiker wrote:lillywhite14 wrote:Molina would stop Price imo.

Imagine not being able to finish Price as quickly as Teper did! Now there's a letdown
