Spoke to a friend today that said something that really made me think. These are not my own thoughts btw and is a wild theory

The heavyweight division being what it is, when is doing well is the division everyone wants to watch. For years Klitschkos have been holding it hostage along with the belts, and obviously wouldn't fight each other. So just seeing boring mandatory's, half of which didn't even deserve the shot.

Now with many prospects on the rise it would seem that a new era was about to unfold. But with VK still around, it would appear he would still be calling all the shots, there would be no big match ups for years to come, unless someone could beat Klitschko.

Enter Fury, someone who has the talent, doesn't really care about the sport, but defiantly cares about the £££.

Could it be possible after fury relieved VK, of those belts Hearn sees a massive opportunity for the heavyweight division, and his ppv events and future for sky, and bringing the glamour division to the UK away from America and Germany, and getting everything on the terms to suit his fighters?

Holding VK off as long as possible as to hopefully maybe put him off following through with the rematch? And maybe coming up with a crazy plan in away which fury can release the belts, get money, and stop klitschko having any influence over any of this?

It would be ingenious if something like that happened!!

That would be nuts... The best thing is to have as many fights and matchups ASAP... That means more money, more prestige, and more fame, leading to even more money... Cus D'Amato's philosophy was to fight as often as possible and win a world title as soon as possible... This is what Floyd Sr. did with Mayweather.. That way you have more earning years ahead and more fights.. If you're going to lose---and you will lose---there's no sense ducking around or avoiding the best fighters.. You can always always get better and fight rematches with them.. The only exception Cus made to this was Sonny Liston.. He didn't want Patterson fighting him and avoided the fight for many years.. Some say he also avoided Machen, Folley, and Williams.. They never really put themselves in position to challenge.

As hard as it is to watch some of the things that go on in the boxing world it's just part of the business, unfortunately sometimes corners have to be cut in order to do things that are for the greater good of the sport.
Hearn seems to have a real passion for boxing and strikes me as genuinely excited about certain matches, yes he's likely making a few quid out of it but without people like him who have an enthusiasm for boxing we likely wouldn't get some of the great events he's put on.
Using Kell Brook v GGG as an example I think mostly all boxing fans in the UK knew that this was an enormous risk by Brook to take on someone like GGG at this stage in his career.
Nevertheless Hearn put it together and managed to give the UK fans a hands on up close look at arguably one of the biggest punchers in recent boxing history and woo him over to the UK, that was a big feather in Eddie Hearn's cap as far as I'm concerned even though he himself in private probably knew it wasn't going to go his way.
But he made a great event happen that I personally didn't think he was capable of pulling off so I applaud Eddie on not only that but a number of other very risky fights he's put boxers in his stable into.
Yes he will also make some below par events in order to build a fighter up which can be frustrating for some fans myself included, but that's part of the sport and as long as he doesn't drag out the one sided build up fights too long it's hard to level any solid argument against the man.

I'm inclined to agree with this. The bigger picture is that he's good for the game, and will make big events happen.

I think a better example of what he's doing is with the darts. Using the same platform, Sky, he has raised the status of the sport to the casual punter. As a result (in the process of making a few bucks for himself) he has increased the profile of the sport, increased revenue, made more prize money available for players. On the down side, the die hard darts fans hate it.

But what do you do? It's a double edged sword. Either tailor the events for the die hard fans, or tailor the events for the players. It's the same with boxing. Would Joshua rather fight Ortiz in what boxing fans would argue would be a massive fight? Or does he fight Price which is going to be a guarantee knockout in the opening 3 rounds which will arguably sell more PPV to the casual?

Depends on who's perspective your looking from.

From my position as a fan I'm conflicted, yes I want to see the best fight the best on a fairly regular basis.
On the other hand I can lean toward holding off on the some of the bigger bouts in order to build up a fight while also allowing the boxers to gain more experience along the way.
The problem with that is due to such things as the Mayweather v Pacquiao fight, sure it made great money and a lot of people watched it by holding off on the date, on the other it should have happened a few years before and would have been more competitive and entertaining.
As for Joshua I would prefer to see him in with Ortiz over Price at this point, but I don't think were quite at the point where I would consider Joshua a ducker should he not fight Ortiz.
I think Joshua will hand pick someone relatively easy and perhaps again in the following fight, but the more he impresses the louder the call will be to up the opposition during 2017.
