The birds in the UFC are the only thing I'm interested in to be honest. There's some good fights in that bantamweight division and Cyborg is great to watch. It's hard to get interested in the rest of it because I don't know who anybody is and the fans are so fornicating retarded. Just reading the Sherdog forum makes me feel sick. It's just all gifs and memes and frat boys arguing.

I'm quite happy to see women's boxing as long as it's good.

The main event wasn't marvellous, the undercard was about what we should expect for our expensive subscriptions.

Women's boxing is a bit like the lower weights. Some will watch it, and we'll rave about good fights (Fujioka vs Go for example), whilst others will down play it or ignore it.

The "If Taylor..." argument might have some weight in regards to getting people excited about female noxing, but "If Andrew Selby, Kal Yafai, Charlie Edwards, Jamie McDonnell, Paul Butler, Jamie Conlan..." can't get fans interested in the lower weights then I suspect the Taylor won't manage to make female boxing a big thing.

Thats not saying she can't sow the seeds, but it'll take a generation of fighters after her to really make it a big thing.

Boxing wont fill a stadium in Ireland anytime soon. If John Joe Nevin became more known in the UK scene. Him and Campbell olympic final rematch could be big.

Mc Gregor is the only fighter who could get close to filling a stadium.

The Irish do have a tendency to over exagerate the ability for their fighters to fill stadiums 'if only they fought in Ireland' remember Andy Lee / Billy Joe Saunders

Exactly, thats a good example, but its also a little misleading. Ireland is massively racist towards travellers. Warren thought it would be a good idea to promote this as the first “All-traveller world title fight”. I said at the time it’d flop.

Ireland it a small country, its sports fans are sunshine bandwagoner, Irish corporate business doesn't like boxing nor does its national broadcaster, a guy was shot dead at a recent boxing weigh in. They are the main hurdles.

I don't want to sound harsh or sexist, but I have zero interest in watching women's boxing on the Fri/Sat night cards on Sky. I'd go as far as to say, I would be changing the channel until the fight is over. I'm sure I am not in the minority with this either.

Claressa Shields or Ceilia Braekhus (sp?) would knock seven shades of sh-t out of some of the dross served up on Sky undercards of late. I'd see the womens game as similar to the lighter weights. There's not a huge amount of them of genuine class, so those that are, are going to be matched quickly and competitively form the get-go.

Taylor won't sell a stadium out. Let's be real. I doubt she'd even be chief support on most UK cards (perhaps only Ireland). That said, I'd much rather watch her fight in a competitive match up than more Paul Smith or Gavin McDonnell wobbling around (Smith) or boring us to tears (Gavin) any time.

rousey was very well promoted, however, that's UFC, not boxing.

The truth is, boxing has been very poor overall at promoting it's female athletes, there seems very little in the way of willingness amongst promoters to put on bouts, partly because some of them are dinosaurs (look at the average age of major promoters worldwide), partly because of the lack of depth of talent, or established stars.

The talent pool of women is pretty shallow in UFC, but it is growing, and there's a bunch of women now with a good following, quite a few from Poland and Brazil coming through who are becoming big names.

Ronda rousey is not a good yardstick for measuring where women's boxing is in the UK.

Signing a woman boxer is big news? Admittedly Taylor is exceptional but women's boxing is odd. I don't want to watch women hurt each other

I can understand why Hearn has does this- if it makes pound notes it makes sense and all that. That said- I can't see female boxing being a huge success. People have mentioned the female divisions of the UFC and I agree, the women's divisions are enjoyable to watch.

The problem is- is that the reason it's a successful is because they're all fighting under one umbrella and it's not fragmented like boxing is, which in turn means you get to see the best women fighting one another.

I imagine that's unlikely to occur in boxing just like in the men's game it doesn't the majority of the time. What we can look forward undoubtedly is Taylor fighting cans and Hearn using his slick marketing abilities to sell the fights as being competitive when they're really not.

Precisely, that's my point, comparing boxing as a whole with UFC, in any aspect, is tenuous at best. The quality of matchmaking in UFC is way higher, because they are all under one banner, and UFC has marketed itself on the consistency of it's product.

Even when you have lower level fights in UFC, more often than not, the competitors are pretty well matched up.

Boxing promoters are just dipping their hands into an increasingly small and less relevant pool.

Eventually, UFC will encounter some of the problems boxing has, as fighters start to demand ridiculous sums to face the top challengers, but we're a way off that yet, as UFC has maintained a tight hold over the purse strings until now, with little or no serious competition, there's nowhere else for their big stars to go, and therefore they have zero leverage in negotiations. The best they can do is threaten to retire really if they want more money, which isn't a great tactic.

There's a lawsuit going on at the moment actually about the UFC being anti-competition and how the fighters aren't paid adequately. There's also attempts to form a fighters union. This is going to sound terrible I know but personally I hope it fails as if the fighters form a union- undoubtedly they're (managers included) are going to try and dictate matchmaking which will cause the UFC to go the way of boxing. I'm not against the athletes earning more money per se but the potential ramifications of them being successful in that endeavour does unnerve me slightly for the very reasons I mentioned.

On the one hand, I'm all for fighters getting organised, and maximizing their pay scales, however, because boxing isn't like other sports, with a central body governing it, this means that individual fighters end up demanding ludicrous sums, for not very good matchups.

Imagine if Djokovic was able to demands a huge sum to face Murray in a matchplay scenario, rather than have to face him in the course of his career numerous occasions.

It's to the detriment of the sport to allow divas and superstar fighters dictate terms, but then given they are risking their lives every single time they fight, you cannot blame them.

Yeah that's the problem. You can't really blame them. As the old cliché goes- you play football, you play tennis; you don't play boxing/combat sports in general.

Rousey has sex appeal to many.

Taylor, Nicola Adams etc .. without being harsh, none.

Throw in the tight pants , rolling around on the floor - and the UFC red necks go wild for it.

Yes but Rousey is based in USA, population 323 million plus extensive influence on all the globe. Eire population is 4.8 million. No influence on global trends. That's the difference
