EXCLUSIVE Anthony Joshua on Matchroom signing Luis Ortiz

Post by lefty »

What was your reaction to Eddie Hearn signing Luis Ortiz, and did he speak to you about it beforehand?

I really don’t really care about what anyone else is doing, apart from people that I love dearly and I care about dearly. If it works for Luis Ortiz, I’m happy for Luis Ortiz. If it works for Eddie, then I’m happy for Eddie. But him signing Luis Ortiz has no direct effect on any plans I have in my life, so I don’t really mind, I don’t really have any opinion on it.

No, he [Hearn] didn’t speak to me before, he spoke to me after. It’s his promotional company, and he makes the decisions at the end of the day. I’m just a fighter in his stable

Is it just me or does Joshua sound kind of moody in this interview? I don't know if it's just the way it's written which makes the tone sound that way or not but he sounds kind of surly.

He is surly. AJ is a wanton yobbish man-child, playing the part of a personable commercial sportsman. His real personality creeps out every time he is exposed to the public. There's something askew in his psyche.

What is PR agency should have got him to say :

It's great news , my goal is to become undisputed champ and fight the best , having Luis, who is the most avoided heavyweight out there and also due a WBA title shot, sign with Eddie, should make accomplishing my goals easier!

Just a bit!

Ortiz is in real danger of becoming the most overrated fighter in the sport today.

He's a pre rehearsed quote machine. When the cameras are on.

I reckon he is a right nasty b**tard in real life. And I would like him a lot more if he is himself.

He should have been saying he was happy any obstacles had been cleared for him to fight a top challenger. He sounds like he's upset about it and doesn't want any part of Ortiz anytime soon.
