Suggestion, if Green vs Palomino is on youtube I recommend it. Brutal war.

Stracey - Green
1. 9 - 10
2. 9 - 10
3. 9 - 10
4. 9 - 10

6. 9 - 10
7. 9 - 10
8. 10 - 9
9. 10 - 9
10. - - - TKO
88-83 Green
More one-sided than I expected it would be.
Stracey looked like he might be giving himself a shot at getting a late victory towards the end, but then Green just started battering him again in the last round.

I watched Stracey's rematch with Arthur,I thought Arthur started off well but lovely right hand from Stracey to finish it in the 4th,it WaS hard to tell which one was which, they both looked the same, like when you have the same character fighting each other on Street Fighter,
Sounded like John Motson in commentary??

I'd seen Leonard's KO of Green before but that was 1st time I'd seen the whole fight, sickening knockout, I remember Leonard saying it was the best punch of his career, Green was just levels below and Leonard done as he pleased,I never knew that was Leonard's 1st defence since beating Benitez

Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 43 - John H Stracey vs Dave 'Boy' Green
Green/Stracey was a brilliant wee tussle fought at a furious pace especially from Green who was relentless, Stracey looked like he about to go in the 5th but he held on and was actually starting to get back into the fight as Green tired but Stracey's eye was a mess and I was glad to see the ref stop it because it was looking uncomfortable, good fight though and it was an aggressive showing from Green who showed a side Leonard never allowed him to

Stracey - Green
1. 9 - 10 - Greens. Bulldozer start from Green, hard to see this keeping up for long. Success with looping over hand rights among other shots. Stracey lands a few counters late
2. 9 - 10 - Green. Stracey trying to match the pace but can't live with Green pressure for 3 minutes. Interesting contrast in head movement, green dips to get in and launch attacks, Stracey upright and never tries to avoid punches
3. 9 - 10 - Green again, similar output from both here, But Stracey upright, throwing plenty jabs and straight shots, Green finding angles and launching shots from all directions
4. 9 - 10 - -Green turning the screw again, Stracey can't live with this constant pressing. And when he lands he doesn't have to pop to deter him
5. 9 - 10 - Started at a slower pace in the first half. But Green picked it up, landed the better shots throughout and looks to have almost broken Stracey
6. 9 - 10- Green, More of the same
7. 9 - 10 - Green. Stracey looking close to going here, brave effort but he's won nothing for me so far
8. 10 - 9 - Stracey, Not sure where that came from. Green tiring, Stracey actually slipping shots and landing in combinations
9. 10 - 9 - Stracey, If I didn't know the outcome, you'd wonder if he was going to turn this round. Green totally exhausted, throwing arm punches and too tired to move his head. Stracey actually timing counters and finding a target he's missed all night
10. TKO - The eye was a mess, fair stoppage. Stracey was well behind but will have felt he was getting back into it in the previous couple of rounds, however Green did seem to have found a second win in this 10th round
88-83 Green
Interesting bout. For the first 7 rounds, there was a huge difference in workrate and pressure, Superior movement from Green making him a hard target and the variety of his work and the angle he was launching shots from giving Stracey real trouble. He also put more into his shots. Don't think there was a huge difference in power, but Green loading up and Stracey unable to put a dent in him. Partly down I suspect to Green just being willing to walk through everything.
The 8th and 9th really interesting as not only did the pace change with Green tiring but Stracey started doing things he hadn't all fight. However that may have been because it was the first time Green had given him the chance.
Fought at a great pace and you can't complain about the stoppage. And I don't think it would have made a difference, Green looked as though he had found a second wind in the 10th

Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 43 - John H Stracey vs Dave 'Boy' Green
Green must have been a nightmare to fight with his pressure and awkward aggression, unless you were very good indeed, like Leonard-level good. Palomino was a damn good fighter and green made him look very uncomfortable at times, you could see it in his face at points
Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 43 - John H Stracey vs Dave 'Boy' Green
These sound good, especially Stracey v Green. I don't know much about pre '80s domestic battles and will check it out as well as Green v Palomino.

Green palomino is better as much less one sided than the stracey fight
Re: 52 fight challenge: Week 43 - John H Stracey vs Dave 'Boy' Green
Quite depressing to watch my first boxing hero get totally beat up like this. When he won the WBC welterweight title Stracey was more like Green was in this fight, throwing as soon as the ref seperated them, desperate to get at the opponent. Okay Jose Napoles was an old man in fighter's terms when he was beaten up by Stracey but in this fight with Green Stracey looks like the jaded, old fighter, his timing was off all night. Boxing is like that. 15 months and one bad defeat after the Napoles fight and he looked finished at top level. It was a sorry early lesson in how quickly things change in this game.
