TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
Being realistically, Canelo has fought elite opponents and he's improving as a fighter by making less mistakes, meanwhile Golovkin is getting old and when he's fighting better boxers he gets hit a lot as Willie Monroe Jr and Brook showed.
All I'm trying to say is Canelo became a very polished fighter who learnt a lot from the Mayweather fight - i.e hit and don't get hit. We may see a very game/skilled Canelo against a very basic/raw Golovkin , of course if this fight takes place in 2017.

12 rds UD for Canelo in Vegas would be my pick. Golovkin has a puncher chance but we all know Canelo has a damn strong mandible.

Re: TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
Golovkin would currently be my strong favourite to defeat Canelo, but as time progresses, the Mexican's chances will inevitably improve.
A year is a long time in boxing, so the Ginger one could prove to be very competitive against Gennady during their proposed September 2017 fight date.
However, if I was GBP, I'd try to find a way to postpone the bout until the second half of 2018, to give their man the very best chance to secure victory over GGG.
There is a small chance that Canelo is already capable of defeating Golovkin, but in two years time, the balance of power (in terms of the betting favourite) is likely to shift significantly to favour the Mexican over the Kazakh.

Canelo is a 26 y/o very experienced fighter and that's a hell of an advantage. The only big problem that I see in Canelo's game is his stiff footwork.Enlightened-One wrote:Golovkin would currently be my strong favourite to defeat Canelo, but as time progresses, the Mexican's chances will inevitably improve.

No, he can't beat this monster

Re: TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
Canelo may win, especially if he benefits from dodgy judging as he has before.
However, GGG has a lot more than just a puncher's chance against an anvil-footed opponent who fights half rounds and doesn't have much of a jab (which GGG certainly does). At this point GGG would also be Canelo's first career MW opponent, and Alvarez seems very hesitant to give up his size advantage.

I think Golovkin is a more skilled boxer than Canelo so he has more than just power in his favor in this matchup, I think he's the all around superior talent here.

Yeah, that's true but GGG isn't get younger. I think Golovkin has 1 or 2 years left at a top level.crusader wrote:Canelo may win, especially if he benefits from dodgy judging as he has before.

Time will tell. If this fight doesn't get made in 2017 is very sad.gilgamesh wrote:I think Golovkin is a more skilled boxer than Canelo so he has more than just power in his favor in this matchup, I think he's the all around superior talent here.

I'm already over it pretty much. The whole "Let it marinate" bullsh*t doesn't work for me. If it doesn't happen next year I'd prefer it never happens.apollo creed wrote:Time will tell. Re: TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
its just embarressing bull, that canelo is waitng until ggg ages. If they fight within a year, ggg wil set an example and knock canelo the **** out with in 4 rounds. People keep praising chickenelos records, but imo his fights against cotto and co, which he gets credit for defeating, were way over experation date. I doubt canelo would even get past brooks or lemeiux. But i doubt he has the balls to fight those guys aswell !
I dont get the hype about about this guy. yes he is young, but has a padded record. and the fights against lara and and mayweather more or less proves why his handlers and himself aint keen on facing the best out there. He is simply not on their lvl. dude is a hype job !

Re: TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
At this moment in time Golovkin would beat Canelo any day of any week. Canelo is too slow with his footwork to give GGG any trouble. The only hope he'd have is a KO but no-one has ever hurt GGG that I've seen so Canelo doing is a pretty long shot.

yes, he does what floyd did with pac:apollo creed wrote:Being realistically, Canelo has fought elite opponents and he's improving as a fighter by making less mistakes, meanwhile Golovkin is getting old
wait until it's easier.
Re: TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
Canelo could only beat an ageing ggg and that is what he's trying to do
Shameful

All good and well Canelo waiting...but there is a chance that his long career and wright crashing will catch up to him before Golovkin actually shows his age. Golovkin strikes me as a guy like Hopkins, who lives in the gym and doesn't break himself down making weight etc

Canelo would have to actually have the balls to fight Golovkin in order to actually beat him.
Maybe he's waiting until Gennady turns 40; then he can get a Golden Boy payday for his birthday!

The same argument can be made that Pac waited until Floyd was 37 or38 or whatever he was. Floyd will always be nearly 2 yrs older, like it or not.man wrote:yes, he does what floyd did with pac:apollo creed wrote:Being realistically, Canelo has fought elite opponents and he's improving as a fighter by making less mistakes, meanwhile Golovkin is getting old

If Floyd would have lost few would have said it was due to age. For some reason folks are already giving GGG the excuse if he loses, even though he most likely will be younger than Floyd when he fights Canelo.
Re: TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
Noting what Canelo's side seems to be doing doesnt equate to making excuses for Golovkin.

It'd be very hard for GGG to beat Canelo on scorecards even if he drops him a few times. Team Canelo would find a way to win. ![[icon_twisted.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)
Re: TBH Canelo may beat GGG as he did with Cotto
I don't think Canelo makes it the distance, but even if he does there'd be no doubt who the winner was. GGG would have him busted all to hell by the end of a 12 round fight.apollo creed wrote:It'd be very hard for GGG to beat Canelo on scorecards even if he drops him a few times.
