Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
Having known from the start that people were made aware of the headaches etc I have not said much on here but here is mike's partner side of it.

Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
It's sounding more and more like his death should have been prevented.
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
Too tough for his own good. What more could he have done? I'm sure if he was told it was more than a migraine he'd have pulled out...tragic
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
I think it's the fact that everyone knew mate. People have jobs to protect the fighters. I think every fighter has had headaches before fights and kept it quiet. Dehydration making weight alone is tough never mind being punched in the head while being dehydrated during cuts etc. It seems like mike has done more than most fighters, asked for medical help and refused to spar which of course everyone would have known reasons. Negligence by more than 1 party in my opinion
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
Very very sad this. And sounds like it was avoidable. Really feel for his family and friends.
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
Why wouldn't they scan him? Surely a massive headache straight after a sparring session is a hell of a red flag.
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
Bad do.
God rest him
God rest him
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
The NHS is a great asset but from time to time like this occurrence it can be pretty shit.
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
If someone is complaining of really serious headaches and they're a professional boxer; surely that should be common sense?! It seems like huge incompetence to me.dookus wrote:Why wouldn't they scan him? Surely a massive headache straight after a sparring session is a hell of a red flag.
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
What did his training team think about him refusing to spar due to bad headaches???

Tragic to read that.
Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
This is not really something the NHS will scan for straight away.. They can't scan everyone that comes in with similar symptoms. I had a very similar situation where I went in for a challenge with a keeper.. Both clashed heads badly he was knocked out and I had a bad concussion. That night I was doubled over in pain couldn't tolerate light they gave me pain killers and sent me home. If his situation had worsened he would of went back.. I think the problem here is the people in boxing who did not step in and stop this fight from happening.. I have seen a lot of respected people in boxing making comments like Mikey should of told someone and saying it's not Boxing's fault.. If his trainer knew?? His manager knew?? The promoter knew?? Why did this fight happen. Was the Dr made aware? What did he do?? Can have all the safety procedures in the world but when it comes to people losing money safety seems to go right out the window.. I'm glad Chloe put the story straight and I hope the people responsible for letting this fight happen put their hands up and admit their mistake.. Nothing will bring Mikey back but boxing needs to change to stop this happening to anyone else

Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
Must admit my first reaction was maybe Mike Towell was too proud and kept his headaches to himself and all. But to hear that he told everyone including several doctors, is utterly shocking. Poor guy.

It's sounding more and more like this could've been avoided and there should be a full investigation for the sake of the guys family. RIP.Dixonian wrote:Must admit my first reaction was maybe Mike Towell was too proud and kept his headaches to himself and all. Re: Iron Mike Towell The Truth!
I did think that myself when I saw the post. It's not like James to be insensitive like that generally though. Maybe he was just having a bad day or it was an error of judgement in the moment.Dixonian wrote:Very odd.Lenny wrote:Strange comment fella. I remember I tore ligaments in my foot and ankle and had an am fight in 5 days time. I went to Aand E told the doc at the hospital about the match and he said it was fine, I could hardly walk come the Friday night but still fought because the doc said it would be fine and i didn't want to pussy out. I don't think doctors at hospitals like boxers much. I could be wrong of course.

They probably have the mentality that it's self inflicted trauma or some crap and that they only want to treat the "worthy" causes or some bollocks.Tomasino wrote:Boxerbeetle wrote:Agreed, makes no sense at all to me.lefty wrote: If someone is complaining of really serious headaches and they're a professional boxer; surely that should be common sense?! That echoes my experience completely tomasino, and lefty I think its a perceptive comment that they see it as self-inflicted. It seems they might see you as only one very small step up the ladder from drunken brawlers, at least that was the case with my relatively minor injuries. I'm sure they are exemplary with injuries they consider life threatening in emergencies etc but I got a strong impression they think sports injuries in general were a pain in the ass to their precious NHS.
