Is Carl Frampton obliged to give Scott Quigg a rematch?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Here is an exclusive extract from Carl Frampton’s interview in the Boxing News Annual:

Scott Quigg has suggested that you’re contractually obliged to give him a rematch. Is that true?
He’s talking out of his arse. There was nothing in the contract that said there has to be a rematch. I think there was something about if the public demanded a rematch then there could be one, but it’d have to be in Belfast. But that’s as far as it goes. There was a rematch clause in the Santa Cruz contract, but not in the Quigg contract. In the foreseeable future, I can’t see a rematch with Quigg happening, because I don’t think it’s a fight that people would particularly want to see again. It was a boring fight, and I did what I had to do to win. I thought that our styles were going to gel a bit better, but he didn’t want to fight, so I can’t do anything about that. Who wants to see a rematch, apart from Quigg and [his trainer] Joe Gallagher? No one, really.

There are better fights for both of them.

Quigg should forget about it for now.

Quiggs not the smartest there was no rematch clause. No reason for Frampton to give him the rematch he is levels above him and has bigger fish to to fry. Quigg has had his chance and blew it.

Frampton isn't levels above him based on what happened in their fight.

I saw Frampton dominate early when Quigg wasn't throwing, later I saw Quigg take over and almost get Frampton going. Terrible tactics and poor corner work hindered Quigg, Frampton certisnly didn't look levels above in the ring.

I liked to see a rematch. Frampton didn't exactly beat Quigg, Quigg's stupid and idiotic gameplan of not doing anything for the first 6 rounds beat Quigg. Once Quigg realised "Hey to win I actually need to do something" it was a competitive fight and in the 11th he came close to stopping Frampton.

I would like to see a rematch IF Framptons level of opposition goes stale but as long as he keeps fighting good meaningful opponents then I dont care for a Quigg rematch in the slightest. Obviously if Quigg goes and gets some big victories then the rematch will be forced upon Frampton.

I agree. If Quigg goes out and beats a top fighter by all means make the rematch but until then, personally I don't care.

Frampton - Santa Cruz II, Selby, Russell Jr etc.
Quigg - Rigondeaux, Donaire, Hasegawa etc.

They don't need each other and I'd be disappointed if they fought again soon.

No interest unless Quigg gets some good wins and changes trainer ( the main reason he lost the fight)

He never came close to stopping him at all.

Corrected

End of round 8 Gallagher told Quigg that sky had him down 6-2 and got a reaction out of him.

Absolutely no way can anyone give Quigg any of the first 8 rounds of that fight.

He didn't even throw a body punch until the 8th round and that's his best attribute

The only person he should have been obliged to fight was Rigo- but he disappeared

I don't know what the contract stipulates, so contractually, I do not know.

Ethically, nobody is obliged to a rematch.

I would love to see the rematch, and see it as a completely different fight, but Quigg just needs to concentrate on getting in the ring, and getting some fights under his belt.

I would watch a rematch, but wouldn't pay PPV again for it.

Nobody in their right mind wants to watch a Rigo fight. He is the most boring fighter in boxing. How many time has he had fighters hurt and then done nothing? The fight with Dickens was a shambles. He didn't want to throw a punch at a guy who was not doing anything and was there for the taking.

Quigg should have left Gallagher after that fight, the corner work and gameplan was that bad. He really should have won that fight for me.

What I want to know who is Quigg fighting next. He is on a Dec 10 bill but the opponent is not announce. At this late stage that means its someone really poor. But it is at featherweight. He needs a decent win before he can talk about Frampton rematch IMO.

Should Eddie perhaps make Warrington/Quigg clash? Its probably better fight then much talked Warrington/Selby and he doesn't have to pay anything to Al.

Frampton took full advantage of Joe Gallaghers poor game plan and just nicked the rounds. I think had it been a bit more like the last 4 rounds I think Carl would have been a bit smarter and boxed a bit more rather than stand toe to toe. I think he was trying to prove he can take a bug punch.

As for quigg, he should have watched the fight back, realized that he didn't win any of the first 8 rounds and then walked away from Joe who has one simple plan of absorb punches, then attack the body and hope.

I like quigg as a,solid come forward fighter who has a decent body shot but he can do better than he has.

I would like a rematch but not until both are at a point of meeting again after taking the world on. If Carl beats LSC then quigg should look at a fight there and basically try to force the rematch.

I wonder if Eddie could look at a sort of 4 man tournament. Carl v Selby and Scott v Warrington and the winners of the 2 meet, as do the losers.

I'm a big fan of both and have zero interest in seeing a rematch. Quigg needs to forget about it and go down his own route.

EDIT: If Quigg can beat some decent names and win a world title at feather then my view could change.

Fan of both, and was at the first supporting Quigg (home town bias). Even generously scoring, I had Frampton winning handily. As much as I enjoyed the night, it's never crossed my mind for there to be a rematch, so I guess I'm not that fussed on one happening.

Would like to see them both go in their own directions now, and a rematch only if it's merited or warranted through unification or something. Which may never happen, and I wouldn't be that bothered.

Of course they can. Frampton was rubbish as well.

Stop acting like your scorecard is the only way anyone could possibly score it.
