Re: Usyk first title defence
Usyk/Bellew is exactly what the CW division needs, which of course means it will never happen.
With this happening in the US, I wonder if there's a possibility that it will be Steve Cunningham. Kind of a pointless fight since Usyk just beat Glowacki (who had just beat Cunningham) but he's still better than Masternak.

Officially Usyk will fight against Beljo. Pretty good opponent for first title defense

Re: Usyk first title defence
Beljo is not the best possible opponent, but if you look at WBO top 15, you will see that only few of them are available for the fight. From top 15, as for me best option for fight in USA was Hunter. Exept Hunter for fight in December were available Beljo, Wlodarczyk, Mchunu and Szello. Wlodarczyk refused from the fight. Beljo and Szello are same level fighters, Mchunu is better but he fights rarely. So Beljo is pretty good choice for first title defence, he is undefeated, puncher and kind of "black horse".jujigatame wrote: Not really.
If you also look at other cruiser champions and their opposition in first defence, Beljo will look not so bad)))) Drozd - Janik, Bellew - BJ Flores, Lebedev -Cox, Lebedev - Silgado, and most of Huck defences)))))

If heavyweights weren't so damn big nowadays, like 250 and 6'6, and if they had a super-heavyweight division like they need to have, he could move to heavyweight right now!
Re: Usyk first title defence
Beljo pulls out of fight with Usyk. Beljo said he is in awful physical conditions now and won’t be ready for that date. He also said he hopes to get another chance to fight for the world title in the next year.

Michael Hunter needs to man up and fight Usyk.
He'll have home country advantage, what more does he want?

Re: Usyk first title defence
Hunter will be best option, but I have feeling that due to short time for preparation he doesn't agree to fight in December and Usyk will fight against someone like WBO #8 Farias((Freedom2013 wrote:Michael Hunter needs to man up and fight Usyk.

Re: Usyk first title defence
Nice and surprising news))) CEO of K2 Promotions Ukraine told that Mchunu has signed contract for the fight

Re: Usyk first title defence
Mchunu is a much better opponent, even though his style may make for a boring fight.
Re: Usyk first title defence
lebedev or huck would be great fights.
Re: Usyk first title defence
Far better opponent now.
Re: Usyk first title defence
Interesting fact - WBO cruiserweight title fight between champion Oleksandr Usyk (10-0, 9 KOs) and challenger Thabiso Mchunu (17-2, 11 KOs) will be the first cruiserweight fight, that will be broadcasted on HBO, since 2003.
The last fight between cruiserweights that was broadcasted by HBO was held on April 26, 2003, when James Toney dethroned Vassily Jirov in IBF cruiserweight world title fight.
