Can one of you fine gents who are ultimately the "deciders" on this define, clarify, set me straight on this?
Once upon a time I recall a "TKO" as the descriptor for just about any way a match ended where the losing fighter did not, could not continue sans a 10 count.
I know that "retired" has been brought in to sort a particular sort of ending.
Could I get the exact definition of fight that ends via "retired" ?
Is it as simple as the refs call for the end of the fight vs the fighters call or refusal to continue?
And is this unique to BoxRec? Or utilized by the sanctioning bodies? If so are their further differences in their definitions?
Question re: TKO's vs Retireds
Re: Question re: TKO's vs Retireds
We introduced RTD (retired) and it only applies when corner retires or is retired by doctor between rounds. Unfortunately from time to time some editors don't have a clear understanding of it, or commissions fail provide sufficient info.
In boxrer's overall record, it still registers as KO loss/win

A corner throwing in the towel is a retirement, the towel signals the corner retiring their boxer. How do you list them?AntonS wrote:We introduced RTD (retired) and it only applies when corner retires or is retired by doctor between rounds. If towel is thrown-in during the round it's TKO. If end of round it's RTD. Reason being:- When corner retires during rest period, some commissions record it TKO of completed round, while others TKO of next round.keithmoonhangover wrote:A corner throwing in the towel is a retirement, the towel signals the corner retiring their boxer. But the towel being thrown in is classed as a corner retiring their fighter isn't it?AntonS wrote:If towel is thrown-in during the round it's TKO. If end of round it's RTD. Re: Question re: TKO's vs Retireds
Decision with most commissions/regulators is TKO
To avoid confusion view http://boxrec.com/show/732027 Akkawy/Hope fight.
If I wasn't aware what happened & didn't insert the scores, TKO round 7 would've been OK. IMO, scores & stoppage of same round just looks plain silly & it does confuse average punter.
If corner is undecided & stuff around, allowing the bell to sound next round, then it's recorded TKO at 1 second of the round.
Gotta keep things nice & simple for average punter & would be boxing scribes![[icon_wink.gif] ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)
