because its mis-selling a product, the guy is still a novice and is totally unproven at world level, the guy has done absolutely nothing to warrant a ppv, but all that is irrelevant isn't it ?Riddick Blowe wrote:Who says?littlepug wrote:Joshuas profile is too far ahead of his ability
Joshua having a prominent profile is good for boxing. Whether he ‘deserves’ it or is ‘ready’ for it is irrelevant (and highly subjective). Why is this so hard for people to understand?

So the fact that he’s a ‘novice’ (he isn’t) and ‘totally unproven at world level’ (lol heavyweight world level) precludes him from the ‘right to be marketable’ (as if that’s actually a thing).littlepug wrote:because its mis-selling a product, the guy is still a novice and is totally unproven at world level, the guy has done absolutely nothing to warrant a ppv, but all that is irrelevant isn't it ?Riddick Blowe wrote:Who says?littlepug wrote:Joshuas profile is too far ahead of his ability

Mis-selling? Are we talking about the IBF strap? Newsflash: There is nothing noble about any of these paper titles. The upholding of some unspoken measure of authenticity on the part of these chucklehead organisations is also, not a thing.
Cliff notes: Demand high, money paid

all I ask for is a bit of pride and professionalism, don't fecking tell me your selling me something special or unique when your not, its like boxing fans don't matter anymore, not when you've got all these footie-esque idiots that will pay for sh1t dressed up as sugar, there was no chance eddie was gonna scrap a ppv slot rather than just put it on anyway and find some dickhead to stand in the other cornerRiddick Blowe wrote:So the fact that he’s a ‘novice’ (he isn’t) and ‘totally unproven at world level’ (lol heavyweight world level) precludes him from the ‘right to be marketable’ (as if that’s actually a thing).littlepug wrote:because its mis-selling a product, the guy is still a novice and is totally unproven at world level, the guy has done absolutely nothing to warrant a ppv, but all that is irrelevant isn't it ?Riddick Blowe wrote:

The problem stemmed from stripping the IBF from Tyson Fury, letting 2 no-marks like Glaskov and Martin fight for the vacated title and giving AJ the chance to get his hands on an honour he was neither ready for or deserving of.
Now we are in the position of watching a fighter, who couldn't pass up that golden opportunity, having to take learning fights, while being in a position where he should have done the learning already.
Pile on top of that, you have an unscrupulous money man (not really a dig at Hearns, it's the business he's in, he's just playing the game) who has a product that will sell. He can choose to hold it back and potentially miss out or he can sell that product to the mugs who are willing to pay the cash
If you're a market trader, with a fruit stall and someone hands you a big bag full of apples, that may very well go off soon......You fornicating sell them!

Why was he 'not ready' for a paper title?davie wrote:The problem stemmed from stripping the IBF from Tyson Fury, letting 2 no-marks like Glaskov and Martin fight for the vacated title and giving AJ the chance to get his hands on an honour he was neither ready for or deserving of.
I'm sure I'll get to the bottom of this eventually

because once you have it boxing history/logic/ tradition or whatever you want to call it says that you are one of the best and as so will test yourself against the best of the rest of the division.Riddick Blowe wrote:Why was he 'not ready' for a paper title?davie wrote:The problem stemmed from stripping the IBF from Tyson Fury, letting 2 no-marks like Glaskov and Martin fight for the vacated title and giving AJ the chance to get his hands on an honour he was neither ready for or deserving of.

History and tradition are the key words there. The days of the best regularly testing themselves against the best are long gone.littlepug wrote:because once you have it boxing history/logic/ tradition or whatever you want to call it says that you are one of the best and as so will test yourself against the best of the rest of the division.Riddick Blowe wrote:Why was he 'not ready' for a paper title?davie wrote:The problem stemmed from stripping the IBF from Tyson Fury, letting 2 no-marks like Glaskov and Martin fight for the vacated title and giving AJ the chance to get his hands on an honour he was neither ready for or deserving of.

Too true - nowadays, once a fighter becomes a PPV draw, they farm out all the easier opportunities, and will very seldom take on the best challenges out there, unless they've exhausted all their other paydays, or they are nearing retirement and looking for one last huge payday.Boxerbeetle wrote:History and tradition are the key words there. there are exceptions, but they are relatively few and far between.

Re: People need to stop complaining about fighters taking easy fights
stuns me how boxing fans can still use these terms 'deserving' or 'earn a shot' in this day and age. After everything that's happened with the fragmenting of titles!
We're not talking about the world title. This IBF strap is a marketing tool, nothing more. Joshua will have one or two more fights that people will complain bitterly about. Then there will come along some chucklehead who, for some reason, is deemed a decent opponent. Malik Scott, let's say.
Then there will be some sort of big fight. Then people will calm down. Then, a few years later, when Joshua retires, approximately nobody will complain about 'THOSE THREE YEARS AT THE START WHEN HE FOUGHT SUB-STANDARD OPPOSITION!'

Perhaps your right and those of us that have seen more prosperous times just feel a bit jaded by the decline/change in the sportRiddick Blowe wrote:stuns me how boxing fans can still use these terms 'deserving' or 'earn a shot' in this day and age. Because it is supposed to be one of the big 4 governing body, it is supposed to be a recognized proper world title.Riddick Blowe wrote:Why was he 'not ready' for a paper title?davie wrote:The problem stemmed from stripping the IBF from Tyson Fury, letting 2 no-marks like Glaskov and Martin fight for the vacated title and giving AJ the chance to get his hands on an honour he was neither ready for or deserving of.

It was held by the undisputed world champion. He was relieved of it by the man who beat the man.
Then IBF in their infinite wisdom threw it to the wind for any bum or under-prepared prospect to pick up.
Yes, these titles have little value these days. But that's not how Hearn and the like promote their "world champion.
Yes, I know the bullshit that goes with ABC titles but that doesn't mean I can't have a right good fornicating moan about it
Joshua was ready for Glaskov or Martin but that isn't who he should have faced for a title. He should have been 5 fights away from challenging, he should have fought Martin, Brezeale and Molina on route to the shot. He should have faced a Klitschko/Fury/Wilder type opponent when he got there.
Or even if it was vacant, a Parker/Ortiz/Povetkin level of opponent
