Browne Briggs

Who wins and how?

And if you were a bookie what odds would YOU give someone who wanted to bet on the fight going the distance?

Browne is tough and I think he can take what Briggs has to offer and stop him late similar to how he dealt with Chagaev.
Interesting fight for me...

I think Briggs has a chance inside three. I reckon he'll score a knockdown but then Browne will come back to stop him round about the sixth round.

Odds on distance? I'd give you 8-1.

Browne will only need to really survive 3 rounds. After that Briggs will be absolutely spent.

As ridiculous as it is that this is mandated for even the "regular" belt, it should be a fun fight. I wouldn't rule out Briggs stopping Browne early, but if he doesn't get him out of there Browne should have him late.

Can't look past Browne for this. The longer it goes the more Briggs gets beat up.

Maybe he is but, there are many ways to mask a sample using other chemicals and other ways. Remember Mike Tyson in his book said he used to have a fake pen1s that he used to use to beat tests.

True enough. But aren't all the masking agents banned as well?

Yes. In theory. Remember - for anti doping agencies to ban a substance, they need to 1) identify the product and realise it exists 2) prove it's performance enhancing 3) formulate a test that will detect it 4) go through all the red tape needed to officially ban the substance.

That's a long process.

And the dopers are way ahead of the game. Always ahead. Look at Lance Armstrong - in a sport that undergoes rigorous testing (unlike pro boxing) - didn't fail a test at the time (I believe only legacy urine samples that later failed).

Plus you can't do much about Mike Tyson's realistic fake penis with someone else's clean piss (not sure how he explained the fake penis if his luggage was searched at an airport  )

Fair point. Still, Briggs looks (and behaves) so juiced up it would have to be one hell of a masking agent!

   I know, I genuinely fear for his sanity and physical and mental health. He seems to have totally lost his mechanism. I know he wants / needs the payday but what price health? Even his head has changed shape since he turned pro as he's been juicing so much

If you had told somebody back when he was being knocked around by Foreman, Lewis and Botha that one day a nearly 50 year old Shannon Briggs would not only be in title fights but also seen as a relatively risky opponent for some of the champions and top contenders, they would not be able to conceive in their worst nightmares a heavyweight division where this could be a reality.

If briggs isn't on HGH I'm a monkey's uncle, he's more muscular than he was in his 20's! Juiced to the hilt.

Odds on distance? I'd give you 8-1.

Id take 8/1 all day on that. Not saying it would go the distance.

Briggs only ever stopped twice and one of those was Lewis, hes taken some serious shots to make the distance in others.

Just to put going the distance in perspective betting wise. AJ Molina is 6/1 to go the distance.

I give Briggs a chance and agree the first few rounds are important. But wouldnt surprise me if after 3 it became drawn out and relatively boring.

Just my two cents :TU:

I just think that Browne is a heavy-handed guy and once Briggs becomes stationery he can just tee-off and take him out. It's been a long time since Briggs fought anyone of note. But yeah my odds are maybe a little generous.

It might be unlikely but I'd like to see Briggs get the win. If nothing else it would be funny to see Haye chasing the fight once he thinks he sees a relatively easy way to become a world champ again.

I think people give Browne a little bit too much credit. His only notable win was against Chagaev, and he retired straight after that fight.

Briggs has taken some beatings in his time, and has shown to be one resilient fella. I see this one going the distance, but Briggs gassing heavily in the second half and Briggs winning by a wide margin.

If I was a bookmakers, I'd barely give 2/1 for it to go the distance.

Briggs packs it in as soon as he realizes he's too shot to take out Browne early. Browne stops him between the 5th and the 7th.

I think a smart move betting wise would be to bet in play on a Browne win. I think Briggs actually has the better boxing skills, obviously being from a purely boxing back ground and in his day being at a high level. I can see Briggs being ahead after 2 or 3 and possibly having Browne down. But if Browne is still there Briggs will be gassed and breathing out his arse, leading to a later stoppage.

He shouldn't be seen as a risky opponent for champions or contenders. Have people seen him fight within the last few years? Did they see Vitali hospitalize him 6 years ago? Ibragimov school him 10 years ago?

Someone like Charles Martin would probably easily beat Briggs, and I think Briggs knows his limitations too, hence all the horrible opponents and pursuing fights with his mouth rather than with his fists.

I know this seems like a mad pick but I actually think Briggs has a good chance in this fight. Don't get me wrong he has to do it early but Browne is not exactly the hardest to hit and I don't think his chin is the most solid either. He was knocked down heavily by Chagaev who I don't believe is the biggest puncher exactly at heavyweight and he was buzzed by Long is memory serves me correct.

Briggs doesn't have a lot left but he can still punch if nothing else.
