To me, if these lads are in against significantly better opposition, they need to be getting matched at a lower level.
Matchmaking is surely a priority, even at this level, these lads health should be a primary consideration.

Why not stick a couple of these fellas in together?
If you are 0-9, in against someone else 0-9 and neither of you has won a round in you career, the loser should be stripped of his license.
Like an eliminator at the lower end.

I know these guys are there to be a test for promising fighters and that's where they get their pay day. But surely they can occasionally put them in with guys at their level and weed out the worst ones before someone gets hurt, otherwise they are little more than a human heavybag.
That may sound harsh and perhaps even insulting. That's not my intent, I think most right minded fans genuinely worry what some of these lads will do to pick up a couple hundred quid and the knock on effect to their health

yeah i agree with you bill but then at the same time theres always people whos job it is to not win the fights/rounds. we all know it. doesnt mean theyre no good

Well obviously they can as I just had a look on the schedule and there's a lad doing a 6 round fight who's 0-9 not only has he not won a fight he's never even won a round. Yes his opponent will get the rounds in as the 0-9 lad has only been stopped once but surely there should be some sort of criteria to box over longer fights? Does lower level fights ever get turned down by the board?

The board often put a limit on fighters so they are only allowed to box 12 minute fights, typically they are stricter with 18 minute fights.

surely though, they want to pick up a win or two.
Not just for professional pride and the actual ethos of 'sporting competition'.
But because surely if they are just there for a payday, those paydays will get better if you have a couple in the W column.

The Board take the piss - if a rule is a rule that applies to everybody then fair enough, but the Board do not apply their own rules consistently to everybody.

Journeymen have mainly accepted their place in the sport and see it as a way of making money, most of them could compete at a decent level if they were well promoted, had a good following and werent fighting at short notice every week. They dont all take as much punishment as their records suggest, you would find that matching them against a similar level of opponent in a must win fight to keep their license would take more out of them physically than a 4 or 6 round survival job against a prospect. Im not suggesting that its not risky to be outmatched week in week out over a long career but a journeyman's record can be misleading towards the kind of ability they actually have, very few of them are taking a bad beating every week. The sad truth is that its in their financial interest to hear the final bell and lose.

Just dont see the benefit of two fighters knocking seven shades out of each other for the high stakes of keeping their license. So they should just get to carry on what they're doing then? Do you think it's ok for a lad who's not won a single round in all 9 of his fights to be able to not only keep his licence but also to up his fights to 6 rounds? Apart from a payday what is there to gain for anyone involved especially the paying public

C'mon mate you know the score, they just coasting through the rounds with good lads who will turn into better lads one day, its dead easy to be competitive and still lose every round

I understand that. But what if Hawking boxed Christopher Reeves over 6 rounds? I have Reeves on points in closely fought fight.... I think the weight difference is the key. but it could go either way....

It would certainly be a better fight than most Matchroom / Sky undercards
