How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
I'm talking in regrads to talent; not earning potential or anything along those lines.
Personally I think Lewis was in another league- curious to hear others thoughts though?

Badly, IMO.

Poles apart in ability, Lewis had more natural gifts at his disposal

Re: How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
It would be a Michael Grant job for Lewis. Can't see Joshua lasting longer than two rounds. Joshua is very robotic and predictable. Lewis had the ability to adapt, threw way more fluid shots, moved better and had a higher ring IQ.
Re: How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
Lennox was significantly more fluid and skillful than any Joshua I've seen, although I think AJ is still improving on that end.
Would Joshua have any meanginful advantage?

Ask me again in at least 5 years.

In terms of talent, Joshua is a lot closer to Bruno than he is to Lewis.
Re: How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
When Lennox was Joshua's age he was coming up to his first big test in Razor Ruddock.
There was a lot of criticism of Lewis throughout his career, one of those fighters who only seemed to become a consensus ATG in retirement.

I'd love to see the more athletic and dangerous Lewis who faced Ruddock fight Joshua.
Re: How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
Joshua has done nothing to suggest he'd beat Lennox Lewis.

He's not as good as Bruno.Boxerbeetle wrote:In terms of talent, Joshua is a lot closer to Bruno than he is to Lewis.
Re: How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
In pure athletic terms Joshua is right up there with Lennox! But Lennox has at least 5 years on him at the vital time, age 12-17, so even though physically he is on equal terms, he will never make up what Lennox learnt in those formative years !
Put Joshua in with a great coach when he was 12 and things would be different.

AJ got a better chin, got more speed, got more strength, Lewis was taller compared to his opponents at the time, more flexible, more intelligent as well in, as outside the ring, and he's more patient.

Joshua is still far from finished work. The same could be said about Lennox himself when he was 27. Lewis improved his balance, jab, footwork and defense immensely under Steward tutelage. 1999 version of Lewis would murder 1992-1994 version.

AJ has a better chin? How do you draw that conclusion?asdfjkl wrote:AJ got a better chin, got more speed, got more strength, Lewis was taller compared to his opponents at the time, more flexible, more intelligent as well in, as outside the ring, and he's more patient.

I'd guess a total lack of knowledge. Lennox went to war with mercer, holyfield and vitali. Joshua got buzzed by whyte. Smh, kmt.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:AJ has a better chin? I like joshua, i think he has some gifts, but lennox would have destroyed him in a few rounds. Its all about levels.

Re: How does Joshua match up with Lennox Lewis?
He's basically given Joshua the benefit off any slight doubt. Chin is still questionable as Joshua has barely had to fight someone who'll hit him back where as we did see Lewis KO'ed. Speed I don't agree with, Lewis put his punches together much more quickly than Joshua does. Strength is certainly possible. Joshua looks to have more upper body strength than Lewis, but his legs are skinnier.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I'd guess a total lack of knowledge. Lennox went to war with mercer, holyfield and vitali. It's pretty clear that when trying to find advantages that Joshua may have over Lewis that A) They're all physical, and B) Many of them are as of yet unproven. Comparing Fury with Lewis might be a bit more interesting.

Just watch the Briggs fight for example, and it's not the only time Lewis loses a match or got in trouble. I've seen AJ being stunned indeed, but it wasn't like the match was nearly all over.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:AJ has a better chin?
