Ward/Kovalev Betting Odds

Post by bnovelist »

Kovalev is the safer bet. He's in his prime, undefeated, and has been the more active not to forget he has John David Jackson in his ear come fight

night. Kovalev surely has to be the favorite and safer betting line.

I disagree.. Ward is the safe bet, was a Olympic gold medalist, hasn't lost a fights since he was like 8 years old and has more tools to work with. I think both are slightly past their prime, but in honesty I don't see it being a deciding factor in the fight. Ward in a 8 to 4 round type decision is smart money, but by all means if you think Kovalev is the sure bet put that money on the table, because I doubt hes the betting favorite at the casino.

Pretty much a pick em fight as far as the market's concerned

Ward roughly 1.9 and Krusher 2.3 or -111 and +130 if you're US based

I like both fighters and in most instances Id favour Ward but in this fight I give the edge to Kovalev.

It's not like the Hopkins-Pavlik fight where the latter was a big puncher (although still not a puncher on Kovalev's level imo) but a guy with shitty, slow footwork and low boxing IQ. Kovalev has pretty decent footwork himself and has a decent boxing IQ although not quite on the level of Ward in regards to hit and not be hit. He's still pretty good in that respect, Kovalev that is.

I just find it hard to see Ward as Slick and elusive as he is; not getting caught with some big shots throughout the fight. I dont believe his chin is that solid either.

I've been watching his recent fights over the last few days and whilst I don't agree with the people that say he's faded from what he was ie he doesn't move as much as he used to say 5 years ago during the super 6- I think he utilities his movement a lot better now than he used to. He moves just enough to make you miss. Anyway- against both Paul Smith and Sullivan Barrera; there was a couple of moments throughout that fight- fleeting moments admittedly where his legs looked like they buckled momentarily to me.

Time will ultimately tell though I guess.

I've been watching some of ward fights recently too. I agree, his leg speed has slowed since the Dawson fight. Dawson was able to land on him a few times, nothing significant. If he's legs have slowed then kov will be able to land more than Dawson and that's trouble. What I worry about is ward on the inside but then again he could disrupt kov from the outside with great timing. so many possibilities. Hope it's a classic.

Ward is an absolute banker in this fight. Kovalev isn't difficullt to hit and Ward has barely lost a round in his whole career. FREE MONEY.

No chance. Kovalev couldn't knock Chilemba out, how is he going to hit Ward cleanly enough for that to happen?

Chilemba is a tough son of a gun. Ward isn't. Everyone gets hit by Kovalev.

I agree Chilemba is a tough son of a gun who almost beat Kovalev. Everyone has their opinion. Ward will fight the perfect fight en route to a late stoppage.

Not many punches landed. Ward controls the pace of every single fight. He wins almost ever round and you can't say that about Kovalev. We will see when they fight. If you fancy a bet on this, I'm happy to do so.

Prediction of Ward stopping Kovalev or any other top LHW are just plain laughable. He is a light hitter (more of a slapper), and he is not a volume puncher. He can only stop somebody with a head butt.

Stoppage using punches - 1%. Stoppage using headbutts/elbows/eye pocking - 10%. The latter is so low, because I think he can only do it in early rounds, and his skills even in that area are pretty rusty.

In his more recent fights Ward hasn't really been even doing the mauling stuff that much. He's predominantly been just boxing at range and then the odd clinch here or there but I haven't seen him being particularly dirty this time around.

That might change for the Kovalev fight though obviously.

I am guessing you are not good at math. 1%+10% = 11%

That's a percentage, not betting odds. Unless you're giving me 9/1? My maths is fine, thanks.
