Heavyweights who weren't always Heavyweights?

Post by StrapMeUp »

Can you Help name me some fighters? Any fighters work, obvious or not, Examples

Guillermo Jones fought as low as 145 made it to 239
Chris Byrd 169 eventually making it to heavyweight
Eric Molina started at Heavyweight, a few years in went down to Cruiserweight, only to move back up.
I heard Barbados Joe Walcott was a Welter weight but would fight Heavyweights
Jersey Joe Walcott fought at 158 made it up to 201

Of course you have RJJ,Toney, Adamek, type fighters those work too. Thanks for your help!! :box: :box: :box:

Usually, when there's a name in the top 100 that I don't recognize, it's a cruiserweight.
Pawel Kolodziej
Dennis Morris
Faisal Ibnel Arrami
Timur Musafarov
Soon the opponent of David Haye, since Daffy doesn't dare to fight real top heavyweights, unless he receives piles of money with it, which is the only thing he's after.

James Kirkland's conqueror Nobuhiro Ishida started at 154 and moved-up to heavyweight. Deontay Wilder's victim Dan Sheehan fought at middleweight.

Tyrone Spong, who fights in a couple of days btw, used to be a kickboxer and became champion of the world many times in 6 different weightclasses. In boxing somehow he only does heavyweights and seems to struggle to find high rated opponents.

His last opponent was a 6'5", 237lb career HW
Previous, was a 6'2", 243lb career HW
Chisora, 6'1", 247lb career HW
Klitschko doesn't require justification
Harrison 6'5", 253lb career HW
Ruiz 6'1", 231lb career HW
Valuev's literally a fornicating giant!
Barrett 6'3" 226lb career HW

All weighed in higher than Haye, none are former CW's, some towered over Haye

By all means criticise the level of recent opponent (the same can be done for every top HW out there,as they are not facing each other),
but let's not pretend he feasts on blown up CW contenders as that is demonstrably pish!

You might as well argue with the wall. Asdfjkl has spent the last year posting about how much Briggs deserves a shot against Haye and how Haye is ducking him and then when there's a thread on B&I about Briggs getting a title shot against Browne he hasn't even posted in it all. Here he is though, still posting about Haye. I think he IS David Haye because he basically forces posters who hate David Haye to actually defend him.

Hello, David

On subject, I think Chris Arreola was a Golden Gloves light heavyweight champion as an amatuer (there is footage somewhere on youtube: looks really weird) before pigging his way up to heavyweight for his pro career. I think if he wasn't so fat he would have been able to make cruiser.

Historically, 5'8" ATG MW Harry Greb fought guys who weighed 190+ pounds and so I guess fought at heavyweight. He is supposed to have handled Jack Dempsey so badly that Dempsey never entertained an actual fight against him but that's more mythological than anything, seeing as it's never going to be on either's record.

Dwight Muhammed Qawi turned over at LHW and worked his way up through CW to HW despite being 5'7"

I'm surprised to see that that bum called Haye ducking Briggs, turned out to be a good thing and I'll laugh my ass of if it later turns out Briggs and Browne made a deal just to help Briggs getting the Haye fight.
^and that was long before the WBA said anything about it.

Ofcourse Haye fought some opponends that were washed up elderly heavyweights, doesn't mean he is or was any good.
Just check the records of his opponends, you'll see they had flaws at the moment of their fights with Haye, were about to retire, clearly declined or Haye got away with a lot of luck.
Valuev had Pain in all their bones and actually showed a better performance against Haye as against a 46 year old version of Evander Holyfield just before.
And really, Harrison? Ruiz? Barrett? The Chisora fight was probably the best thing Daffy has ever done in his life, next avoiding good opponends like Fury, Vitali, and even Briggs.
