After watching a dismal performance by Pacquia it doesn’t make sense for that rematch to happen. It will be repeat not revenge. Regardless of that, Money may is all about the $, I suspect, (without knowing today’s numbers), Manny’s popularity has declined.
If money May returns and he’s still about Money, the most lucrative fight for him and the biggest fight in boxing is two fights with the same opponent. Mayweather should fight Gennady Golovkin with a rematch clause.
The fight is easy to market.
What happens when Mayweather gets knocked out? His rematch is an even bigger PPV affair. (Tyson – Holyfield 2). Simple.

No matter what you say, Mayweather vs Pacquiao sells
Arguably better than any other fight. Mayweather vs Golovkin or Canelo 2 both sell very well, but I think a rematch with Pacquiao, boring as it may be, outsells them all.

I don't see Golovkin v Mayweather ever happening. At what weight? Golovkin is way too big for Floyd.
Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
At 155, "Canelo weight". This would help the marketing, making it technically a middleweight championship. Think Leonard-Hagler. Pac/Mayweathers not in demand. He's beaten Canelo, that's old news. Who else does he have? Mayweather haters will love it, all will tune in to see him knocked out and it may very well happen. Then the rematch will be bigger.Ian1973 wrote:lazboy wrote:After watching a dismal performance by Pacquia it doesn’t make sense for that rematch to happen. It will be repeat not revenge. Floyd would never in a million years fight GGG. Ever.
You might see a Pac rematch, or if Garcia gets past Thurman, a Garcia bout, But that's about it.

That's it for Floyd, he's retired and not coming back..

no matter how much it sells and if it s 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 dollar who cares, does anybody from you get 1 dollar out of it, no, so why care about if the fight sells or not?

Like the first fight it won't be competitive.. Mayweather beats pacquiao with one hand tied behind his back.
A Intresting fight for pacquiao is Garcia at 140 . That's the best weight for both guys.. Won't happen

Dismal performance? You are probably a new fan to the sport if you would classify that as "dismal" when a 37 year old guy puts on a clinic against a 27 year old boxer in his prime and takes him to school to grab a world title.lazboy wrote:After watching a dismal performance by Pacquia it doesn’t make sense for that rematch to happen. #1 you're dreaming if you think Floyd will ever agree to fight GGG. That's ridiculous. IF Floyd comes back, it's going to be against a pillow punching puff piece. The guy was negotiating against a UFC fighter for god sake. He's not going to take on a white whale like GGG at this stage. No way.
Floyd is retired...let's just get over this and talk about fights that CAN happen.
Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
Delirious. Even Timothy Bradley said it was as good as Manny ever looked. He's just a little more qualified than you. No offense.ginty wrote:manny looked poor to me he was easy to hit with the right hand it was not a clinic as you put .manny should hang em up i thinkcaldo2025 wrote:Dismal performance? Unfortunately the millions of casual fans that buy ppv only see Mayweather vs Pacquiao in big lights. But let us be honest, even us 'knowledgeable' boxing experts will tune in

Canelo Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao are all capable of achieving PPV buy-rates that would almost certainly exceed Golovkin’s by a minimum of 50%.lazboy wrote:If money May returns and he’s still about Money, the most lucrative fight for him and the biggest fight in boxing is two fights with the same opponent. In fact, if Money May was willing to travel overseas, he’d receive a bigger payday facing Kell Brook or Amir Khan than he would against GGG.
There’s no fiscal reason for Mayweather to face GGG.
If Floyd ever fights again, he’ll be in his forties, which is incredibly ancient for a lighter weight class. He would have also been competing as a professional for more than twenty years.
If I was Floyd, I would stay retired, but if I felt compelled to engage in one more bout, it would have to be staged on home turf in Las Vegas, against a beatable veteran opponent and with a minimum guaranteed purse of $50m… and the sole purpose of the fight would be to gain the “50-0”.
To propose the notion that Mayweather Jr. is automatically obliged to face a much bigger and younger opponent, like GGG, that doesn’t bring as much money to the table as other opponents could, is utterly absurd!
I get it... people want to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. lose, even if this means they have to clamour for him to face a heavyweight like Tyson Fury, but honestly, what you’re proposing makes no sense whatsoever!
Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
They couldn't pay Floyd enough to fight GGG so people might as well quit kidding themselves about that one.
Floyd vs Pac 2 would still do big business. Us Boxing diehards would sh*t on it, but it'd still go over well with the Public in general.

Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
Mayweather has no interest in getting the sh*t beat out of him by Golovkin. There are some bums on the street who would be willing to take an ass-beating for some money, but Mayweather has way too much money to care about making a little more, and an unbeaten record that he cares about way too much to have it shattered now.
I think Mayweather - Lara would be more logical. It's a fight in which Mayweather has a legitimate perceived risk of losing against a larger fighter with a respectable p4p ranking. It should make at least 80% as much money as Mayweather - Golovkin makes, and Mayweather's risk of losing would be like 20% instead of 80%. Of course, Mayweather could always just fight someone like Thurman, Garcia, or Crawford for good money and a very low risk of losing.

Seems like some of you have forgotten that out of Floyds last fights 3 were against Maidana and Berto.
He is not interested in fighting against the best opponents. He only want's to make that record look even nicer and grab some easy money while he is at it.
Manny fight would be winnable and generate loads of cash. It might happen

Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
I think Floyd has made it clear that he doesn't want to fight Golovkin. Why risk your legacy against such a dangerous opponent who is ten pounds bigger than you? Risk/reward just isn't there. What happens if GGG punches right through him? People will say Mayweather's whole career was built off of fighting men he knew he could beat, that he never took a fight against a single dangerous opponent. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, a loss would devastate his legacy. That is the biggest concern of fighters today. It has nothing to do with being the best fighter in the world or the best fighter ever. It's about perception. Do people think you are the best fighter in the world? That's all that counts to today's champions.
Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
GGG just isn't the biggest payday for him.

Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
Mayweather's not coming back.
For what purpose?
He's proven that he's one the greatest fighters of all time.
I'm certain that he wants to leave the ring with an undefeated record.
Coming back at the age of 40+ offers no guarantees. Just major risks.
Floyd certainly wouldn't return for money, would he. The guy has made around $500 million in his career, so what's the lure?
He doesn't need it. And if for some insane reason Mayweather does need money again, I suspect he would also blow a new $100 million payday, so why bother?
When he appears at fights and talks cryptically about a return, Floyd is just teasing the public.
He's content with his money and legacy.
We'll never see him in the ring again.
(BTW, did I read right. Does Lackeos want to see a Mayweather-Lara bout? I love Floyd but I have to admit that such a match up would probably put even the referee to sleep. Mayweather-Lara as a PPV attraction? The mind boggles.)

A narrow minded person, how very irritating.
It’s time to think outside the box. Think supply and demand. Think marketing. Think the effectiveness of marketing, whose job it is to create interest. “There’s no fiscal reason for Mayweather to face GGG” The creative side of your brain needs enlightening!
Is it “utterly absurd”, with an exclamation mark for this fight to be considered? Was Sugar Ray Leonard utterly absurd for facing Marvin Hagler in a classic super fight. I find this to be the most relevant. Yet you have ignored this and other more recent examples plainly in view. Was it absurd when Kell Brook fought Gennady Golovkin? Was it absurd when Amir Khan fought Canelo Alvarez. Both the most popular fights of 2016 as you well know.
Perhaps in your haste to be heard you can be excused some misgivings. To clarify, I didn’t” propose the notion that Mayweather Jr. is automatically obliged to face a much bigger and younger opponent”. He is not. Mayweather, as we know is his own man and seems in control of his destiny.
However, the image he tends to portray is that of a money maker , to the point where he has changed his name to Money, which makes me believe this fight is an option. Of course if Money may is less about the money and more about preserving his record, we have a different story and that’s fine (he’s a welterweight who’s almost 40, there is no obligation). Yet there’s a super fight possibility here , that we should not ignore. Contrary to what some say on this forum, I believe he believes he could defeat Golovkin and he has voiced this.
You say you “get it”, I don’t think you do. Both have shown recent vulnerabilities. It makes sense, it has happened in the recent past to popular acclaim. In my opinion, and this is an opinion piece, this is the best fight for Mayweather money wise if it has a rematch clause. Marketing it is almost simple. We have the now unofficial pound for pound king vs the middleweight destroyer. If Mayweather gets knocked out, the rematch will generate huge interest. If he wins, he’ll receive just accolades. It’s a risk yes, but this is the dream fight and the best that boxing has to offer for maybe a year, if both remain undefeated.
As for your comment regarding Mayweather fighting Tyson Fury, don’t be absurd!
Re: Mayweather wants the biggest fight in boxing for his return, this is it.
I agree Lara Mayweather is a terrible fight. It's very real that he won't come back and its a risk. But this here is a potential superfight. I'm not saying it will happen but this is the biggest fight in boxing right now if it were to happen. The timings right for it. Pac is done. Canelos a B%$ch. Golovkin is king and getting popular. It's a dream, I know.SenorPipino wrote:Mayweather's not coming back.
