I knew it. I need to set up some kind of deal with AJ where we tour thr country together and he goes around asking women to feel his muscles for a small fee. Sort of a reverse Purple Aki set up.
Together? What's your role?

You think that you might be able to snaffle some of AJ's rejects just by virtue of association? I don't think AJ groupies would be much into a fat Carl Froch from Chatham but you never know. Last time I was round your way the fashion seemed to be an up-tilted cap, oversized Argos gold chain, snide Reebok classics from Strood market and both hands down the front of the trackies, ape style, fiddling with the meat and two veg like it was normal. Has the place changed much?

Not sure where you get the fat Carl Froch part  ......Also I have to clear up the fact that Im not from Chatham. I can't be having that association. That's worse than the fat Carl Froch part  ......Regarding Chatham though; yeah its still the soul destroying dive the last time I ventured over that way.

At times when I've been on the bus going through that way- it's always Chatham where there's been some fella downing a can of special brew at like 9/10 in the morning.

Have you ever spent any time around Luton way? Luton, Chatham I mean obviously, not Luton in Bedfordshire.

I've always stood up for The Good Night Out brigade, as I think a night at the fights with your mates and some beers is better than a night in the pub, and think Boxrec-ers can be too miserable and down on people who pay for live gates. However, I'm fed up with live boxing for the moment. The shows I want to go to are either like getting Glastonbury tickers (waiting hours on the phone refreshing the website only for it to be sold out) or 'rescheduled due to injury'. The promoters and the boxers are too greedy. We've been fleeced enough and I can't be arsed with it. I have literally ZERO interest in the main event for this, it's a pisstake, and a decent undercard will not make me pay for it. I hope it dies on its arse.
Ive been to fights and not been interested in the undercard at all. I went to the Haye v Harrison fight and was stood round the bar most of the night waiting for the main event, my son and his mates came along and because it was their first big show they watched everything. I couldnt even remember George Groves was on the card.

Many years ago you posted that you had a similar body type to Carl Froch, but that you could lose a couple of pounds. Thus, you were nicknamed "a fat Carl Froch" by another poster, and the image has always stuck.

Fortunately I never lived there but I knew the Medway towns very well about ten years ago and the people there are amongst the roughest I have ever come across. Not especially hard, (the only boxer I know from the Medway towns in Tom Dallas, which gives some clue to the general level of toughness) or especially dangerous (the local faces would be eaten alive in London or Manchester or Glasgow for instance) but the scumbag level seemed high: arguing and shouting, shirtless lads in tracksuit bottoms with cans of Stella at all hours, no vibrancy, no real culture, rat boys, fat girls, all dripping with huge gold chains bought in installments, caps and tracksuits tucked into their socks, everything shut, shouting at their kids, everyone looking ill and badly dressed. I knew Luton very well, mate. People on the Luton road are in a sorry way. This woman who lived on that road was telling me how a car had been dumped there for ages and in the end her neighbors just smashed the car up for a laugh. "That's people's idea of fun around here," she told me sadly.

That's what it's like. People are sort of criminally minded but aren't smart enough to channel it into anything where they actually earn any money so it's just all opportunistic stuff like mugging or burglary or stealing a car stereo, and they're all proud of it and talk about it. I got a train from London a while ago to Whitstable and there were these Medway people on there, hiding in the toilet so they didn't get caught by the guard, and just talking like complete scumbags. The train went past that new build "posh" place, St Mary's Island or whatever it is, and one of the blokes went "yeah, I done all them houses" meaning he burgled them, and they all cackled and wheezed. I just thought, urgh Medway. That's really typical for round there: this weird pride in being a fornicating scumbag loser.

There was a good documentary about Medway custody a while back that really summed up my feelings about the place, really.

 no offence, mate!

It's not a terrible card by any means, and if it was in my area I would have tried to get a ticket. But it isn't PPV worthy. Fans of other sports must think boxing fans are mental, putting up with paying extra on top of their already expensive monthly subscriptions. Why is it just us who have to fork out PPV?

Just like its not unreasonable for Eddie to try and get the most dollars for the smallest cost .

I posted a link above to it. Yes boxers have always sold tickets but what happened in Hatton mayweather is that they sold tickets to secondary operators/companies who then put them on the market to the public. It meant that only a tiny percentage ever went on sale at face value.

Thus is what is happening with matchroom/stubhub. It's not a few guys sitting around at midday trying to get tickets to sell on for a profit. It's a boardroom decision made by 2 companies to exploit the market
Stubhub don't sell tickets. Full stop. People buy the tickets, put them on there and get what they can for them. It's large scale touting, but Hearn isn't involved in the actually selling of tickets. The shows are sponsored by StubHub, big deals. They've also been sponsored by We Buy Any House, so Hearn must be buying houses and selling them higher.
You're playing pretty dumb throughout this whole thing. Not sure if you're one of Eddie's pals or just genuinely naive?

Ah yeah now I remember  ...... I don't look like Carl thankfully (no offence Carl) ....... Don't worry, I don't take offence in regards to that summary of the medway towns. I feel the same way! It's a got a very strange culture and like you say rough as arseholes.

I could be wrong here but I don't think I am- a lot of people moved out this way from places like the east end and parts of Essex. If you listen to the accents you can kind of pick up on that vibe a bit aswell.

BTW it seems already 80-90 % sold (to fans). So haters who expect "half empty" arena will be bitterly disappointing. On the other hand, relatively slow ticket sale might indicate low PPV buys. At least something you sad people can cheer about. :-P
How do you know who it's sold to?

The tickets will have gone to other platforms to sell, without doubt.
I have looked at the sites that sell them and not much is left on offer.

I cannot ave Chatham slagged off in such a way! Tom Dallas best boxer from the towns? It's actually Johnny Armour. St Mary's produced plenty of champions for such a tiny club. I know plenty of blokes from bigger, more famous clubs in London & South East and they always said the same thing when having to face a St Mary's fighter...'always knew you were in for a tough night'

The rest? Ok, that's a fair assumption! Petty crime haven, full of scumbags.
Although the Irish in the surrounding 'countryside' have made quite a name for themselves of late. I was in Manchester two weeks ago and was being asked if I knew them.

I agree, but as big boxing fans, some of whom already pay kick up are off £100 a month for Sky, we want to watch Joshua. Asking us to pay an extra £15 on top of that monthly payment and you expect that required additional revenue to be down to a shortfall in putting a top card together. Not just because they know people will pay and they can make more money. Joshua Whyte allegedly did 400,000 buys (source Dan Rafael) that's additional revenue of £6m at £15 a buy. If Joshua Molina does half that it's £3m extra, spent where?

I don't like it. But I'd probably buy it. I'd justify it "it's only 4 pints" or whatever.

I don't understand the boxing ppv culture . Champions league final isn't PPV. Superbowl isn't PPV. Last day of premiership on sky or Ashes or whatever aren't PPV. So why boxing!
Can only assume to get monopoly on Sky Matchroom promised to deliver X number ppvs per year

PPV being accepted in boxing is a disgrace to be fair. Been going on for 30 odd years now though unfortunately. It's part of the culture and just another way to rip the fans off

That is spot on, however it's the same on here every time Eddie does a PPV, everyone bitches and moans, but 90% will buy it anyway. I won't as a scrapped sky completely years ago, I felt like a mug, forking out close to £80 a month so a bunch of chavs kicking balls about for 90 minutes a week can drive around in ferraris. Eventim have sold out all cheap tickets and only the odd middle priced ones left. Still seems to be plenty of the higher priced ones too.

Stubbhub have 1333 for sale and again the lower priced ones are dropping slowly. Are you touts going to be stuck with tickets or going to have egg on your face when you have to sell at ticket cost.

Rubbish main event.

I am marginally interested in the Chisora v Whyte fight as that will be competitive although I don't particularly rate either of them. I very much doubt I'll buy the PPV though unless I'm bored at home that night. £16 for it is shocking value especially when a few weeks before we have a genuine super fight in Kovalev v Ward on normal Sky.

This trend of showing every single Joshua fight on PPV regardless of the opponent is ridiculous. PPVs should be reserved solely for the biggest fights in the division. I'd say Joshua against Haye, Fury, Wilder and Klitschko are all PPV worthy but not against anyone else in the division.

My guess is because boxing has always been an 'event sport. By that I mean you will get diehards who watch a dozen fights a week, and then casual fans who watch half a dozen fights a year. For those, you can sell boxing as a pay per view event because it's an organised lads night in. Fifteen quid split between a few mates, none of whom are boxing fans and are paying because they want to see Joshua smash Molina up in a couple of rounds, isn't going to seem too prohibitive.

The answer with all of these questions is basic economics. Price it too high and nobody buys it - failure. Flog it cheap and lose money - failure. Get it right and make the most money for everyone involved via shifting enough tickets to sell the stadium out and doing enough PPV buys = the job of a good promoter.
