Let's just hop they put on a decent undercard
Good summary. Like RJJ-Hopkins 2 though Hopkins won and lost 3 legit titles to top shelf boxers after their bout. :TU:
That fight mattered to Hopkins. It mattered a whole lot too. Because he'd waited 17 years to get revenge on Roy, and to suggest it didn't matter to Roy would be equally fanciful.

It matters to Green and Mundine who wins as well. To suggest otherwise is just b.s.

Maybe I think the weight disparity and Mundines performances recently make it a mismatch and for Mundine at least it's just a cash out fight.

You have gone from 'Green doesn't deserve a rematch because he has only beaten poor opposition (Bolonti and Watts) and looked ordinary' to 'Mundine has no chance at all of beating Green' in very short time :OhYes:

Looks like Mundine has been cross training. Crossing the road to the pie shop that is. The shape he's in in the video he might struggle to make 83 kg.

If Green's ploy in calling for an 83 kg limit was having a bigger target to hit it's probably working out even better than he would have expected. Hope for Mundine's sake that new hip of his can carry the blubber for 10 rounds.

When it mattered?

You are implying there that there's a time in a boxer's career when it doesn't matter if he wins or loses.

Suggest to Green or Mundine that the result of this fight doesn't matter and be prepared for the backlash. There is some serious pride on the line here and to guys who have already banked their millions, pride and bragging rights mean a hell of a lot.
I'm implying it's two guys in their 40's in a irrelevant fight that no one outside Australia will care about.
10 years ago both guys were top 10, it mattered.
Now it's a side show attempt to grab cash

Irrelevant you say?

Take a look how many posts there are in this forum about this fight compared to every other topic on the Aussie board. This fight is the talk of this Aussie forum and the other Aussie forums as well. Hardly irrelevant, and likely to be one of the biggest grossing fights in Australian boxing history and will likely have one of the biggest live Aussie crowds ever as well.

Granted it is only of interest to Australia. But their original meeting 10 years ago, although huge here, hardly stopped the rest of the world either.

They are both in their 40's. But anyone trying to suggest this isn't a big fight, both money and interest wise is just kidding themselves and anyone suggesting either will give any less than 100% is kidding themselves as well.

Weight difference. It's not like RJJ-Ruiz,Mundine has declined badly I think he could still lose a decision to Green but that's about it. Green hasn't looked great against poor opposition either this will be a stinker IMO.

Im actually suprised by some of the comments around here, people are actually making an effort to legitimize this bout.

Joshua Clottey dropped Mundine 5 times and Clottey had spent almost his entire career at WW.

The fact some of you believe bragging rights is what is at stake for these two, is actually laughable.

Whatever criticisms people may have of the fight are totally worthless

Fans are going to be turning out in droves for this fight. It has captured the public imagination, and the fact that a few posters have inundated this thread with comments shows how massive the contest is; we should actually be on our knees in thanks to these two good men who are bringing so much attention to the sport.

Also, regardless of how old Green is, or how badly Mundine got his ass kicked at 154 pounds in his last bout, these guys who have made a lot of money are going to make a lot more money, which somehow makes this a good fight and should be of our utmost concern. And of course bragging rights are on the line too; the fight ten years ago means nothing now, as the winner here takes home all the glory.

This is going to be a hugely dramatic affair that makes people around the country proud to be Australian, and blah blah blah and so on

Love the parody. But much of what you say in jest there is reality.

The fight has captured the public imagination. Adelaide Oval will be full. The pubs will be full and the punters will be passionate. The PPV will sell. The winner will be bragging about it for years. They will make squillions and a few people will try and pretend it never happened.

I know, and people bandying those points about in response to criticism of the fight is quite funny.

Floyd Mayweather would probably make millions to fight an 0-10 clubfighter, but would that put the contest beyond criticism? George Foreman could've beaten Ali in a rematch at pretty much anytime over the last 25 years, and I bet they would've made loads of $$$ for that, but would that have legitimized another go? What about prime Hopkins vs the 3-1-1 guy who beat him in his pro debut? Solid fight due to the bragging rights on the line? How about Pacquiao vs Paul McCartney? I'm sure that loads of people would be talking about it and they'd both get paid more than any of us will ever see.

I find it humorous and odd that valid critcism from boxing fans who want to see good fights is being reflexively met with stuff like 'well they'll make a lot of money!' That's the type of response that suggests to me that someone is a bigger fan of one of the boxers involved (probally Green) than of good fights.

They are both over 40 and well past prime. That much they have in common and nobody is trying to pretend they will be at anything like at their best come February. But all the other points I made above are simply reality, including the fact that the winner, whoever it is, will dine out on the result and brag about it for years.

What you described is experienced guys fighting 0-10 and 3-1-1 fighters and that simply isn't the case here.

This is a 43 year old with a 35-5 record against a 41 year old with a 47-7 record.

But we seem to have reached agreement on most other points :TU:

As you can see by RR's response some people don't care he mentions the fighters ages, records but conveniently leaves out what weight each fighter
currently fights at.
