did mike tyson ruin donovan ruddock?

Slightly off topic but I was just wondering if anyone since Ruddock has had much of any success with the "smash"? And if not, why not? Maybe it isn't an everyday punch but I could see someone like Nigel Benn or Felix Trinidad using it (sparingly but) effectively. Or maybe a Spence or a Kovalev today.

NO way in Hell... Buster had a stance... footwork... speed... a jab... a straight right... slick counterpunches... a defense... and great combinations. You forget that his father was a National Golden Gloves Champion who had a long pro career.. He taught Buster how to box from the time he was 3...and marveled at Buster's size and raw talent.. The only guy who wasn't too sure was Buster.. He never believed, or never worked that hard.. But Buster would have boxed the ass off Ruddock if he prepared like he did for Tyson.

Nope... Ruddock lost to anybody who was big, tall, prepared, and could box and punch... Lewis for instance... He didn't even get warmed up and RR was out.

What I do know is, Tyson is a sexual predator / convicted rapist, and a bullyboy. Those are traits of cowardice. Hence when Douglas, Holy, Lewis, Williams, and McBride, took his crap and hit him back harder, and / or more often, he capitulated. This is why I would ALWAYS have backed Douglas in ANY rematch with Tyson no matter when it had occurred.

You trying to compare the one dimensional, plodding, skill less, dim witted, single shot hitting Ruddock with Douglas, says more about your desperate man love for Tyson, than it does about your knowledge of the fight game, I'm afraid.

Along with Tillman, and Stewart, Ruddock was just another confidence builder for your hero's shattered reputation. The fact that EVEN he did far, far, better than expected was just writing on the wall.

Other than Douglas's inspired win over a poorly prepared Tyson I cannot think when he performed that well again. ..or in fact before..As we know Boxing is mostly psychological. In the Tyson fight Douglas showed some of the sweetest boxing I have ever seen for a heavyweight.
Ruddock was a very decent boxer actually but became obsessed with using his Ko smash constantly and forgetting about his technique.
I would have to side with Badkat on this in that Ruddock would beat Douglas in normal circumstances. Also Tyson would beat Douglas in a rematch if he was serious. However the Tyson that is revered was finished before the Douglas fight. His lifestyle paid for a lot.

Tyson ruined Biggs. Douglas looked fantastic on the Tyson/Spinks undercard against Mike Williams. No version of tyson beats him that night.

I try to make my opinions on what I think rather than be influenced by my loving or loathing of a fighter. I remember watching Douglas vs Mike Williams and being impressed. This was on the undercard of Tyson vs Spinks I believe. Williams wasn't very good though his physique was awesome.
In my opinion Tyson from 86-88 would beat Douglas 24 times out of 25.

the best ive ever seen douglas was ovoiusly the tyson fight .....and his non telivised fight on the tyson v bruno 1 undercard against berbick ...douglas came in at a swelt 226 lbs and snapped berbicks head back with that awsume jab .....douglas v berbick is up on youtube for any of you who have not watched it check it out ...he looked great that nite
