Herbie Hide to return in 2017???

Post by Mimmy »

Sounds interesting if it comes off. Hide now 45 and could be trained by Herol Graham.

I still remember watching him lose on points to Henry Akinwande (I think) in the ABA Final back in about 1989 or so.

He'd only had something like ten fights but you could see the raw talent and speed shining through.

I think he was 17 at the time.

ABAs were on regular telly back then.

One of my favourite fighters.

Hope he doesn't come back. The cruiserweight division is to talented at the moment for a easy journey back.

Herbie won't come to much harm & will be classed as inactive - he's going with the hobbyists :box:

I can only dream of what would of happened if Bellew jumped over the ropes to trash talk a prime Herbie.

Herbie was never destroyed as a fighter. Bowe whooped him along with Klit but those were the only 2 fights that size won over Hide. Fair enough he's been inactive since 2010 and dont really know what kind of shape he's in but hes not the worse fighter to make a comeback. If hide still has his knock out punch and his health there is no reason for him not to make a comeback. He could do well at domestic level and talk his way into a fight with David Price.

Dream Big! - Dream on  ... incase you hadn't noticed, he's not getting a licence with the BBBofC so its all pie in the sky.

The thing is he went back to cruiserweight in 2006, he won all 14 fights but even then his punch seemed to have left him, as 5 of those fights went the distance with some points wins against quite poor opposition. That speed and power doesn't get better 11 years later.

Ok if thats an official statement from the BBBoC so be it. Still does not mean he shouldnt box if he;s fit enough and healthy to do so. Has he already been through health checks with the BBBoC and they have said he;s not healthy enough to box, yet they give a licence to Freddie flintoff? Seems odd behaviour that.

Herbie's picked the wrong time to be coming back as a CW.

The division is a bit tasty at the moment & at 46, he will no longer have the speed that characterised his prime.

They say power is the last thing you lose & Herbie had mind numbing power, but even that seemed to have deserted him last time he was active.

Ive not heard anything official regarding the MBC however the only reason I got to know about Hide returning was from Gianluca's post on Facebook.

To be honest if Hide is fit and healthy this is a good move and will help the MBC by putting bums on seats.

I think you read it wrong ? Im not saying it's an official statement from the BBBofC. I'm saying according to Hides agent he's taking another route. So talk of him fighting a BBBofC fighter like Haye or Bellew is pie in the sky.

If Shannon Briggs couldn't pull it off in a fight that generated real interest then its all steep uphill.

Boomer is more of the "hold me back type" there is no way he would get in Hides face even today - although I would love to see it :bag:

I remember Mick Hennessy won a purse bid for Hide to fight Danny Williams around 2003-2004 time. Hide then got a horrendous cut against a guy called Menduaga Kulikauskas who was bought in as a keep busy fight and at that time the BBBoC had a horrendous rule whereby you'd lose if you had to retire due to a cut.

That fight never happened and it was a damn shame as at that time it would have been really good.

He always seemed loaded with that mansion he self built in Norfolk and the Vegas house...seemed like he made maximum use of the bowe fight purse.

He's stayed regular like despite never getting a big fight this century....but I spose the drug dealing showed he was struggling a little to be able to maintain his lifestyle for the rest of his life....

At 45 I think at cruiser with a master like horel graham training him he can still win a world title and earn a packet

Those big house cost a fortune to run and maintain, particularly with no regular income. I think he's been declared bankrupt in the past, can't quite remember.

He'll get stopped anytime he steps above domestic level. He's a fighter who traded on speed, reflexes and timing, he was never a "clever" fighter
