I think Eddie signed him and did this fight on purpose to devalue a legit threat to AJ. Eddie knew all along Malik has been in farcical fights.

I get that part but wouldn't he have to pay Ortiz a signing on fee & isn't Ortiz still very highly ranked by the Alphabets so will have to fight AJ eventually (if AJ keeps winning).

It would suit Eddie much more if Ortiz looks brilliant so he can sell a massive PPV.
