DeGale and Selby to Haymon.
Oh yeah already happened.

Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
DeGale? I know him and Ed aren't on the best of terms..
Quigg, he was joking about that Ed never calls him anymore but there's obviously some truth to it, it's just whether he has the brains to consider going elsewhere.
I know Selby is in a similar situation to DeGale, being controlled by Haymon but I doubt the situation with Hearn has turned sour as it has with DeGale.
Only other one I can think of is Crolla, I couldn't see him turning his back on Matchroom/Sky though, only reason would be to fight Flanagan and rumour has it Gallagher wants none of it..

Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
Will anyone actually 'defect'? No high profile British boxer would be wise to sign a long term deal - they'd be better selling themselves to the highest bidder on a fight by fight basis. Lots of dates that need filling....
Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
In the interviews yesterday Frank claimed he's already received calls from unhappy fighters promoted by rivals. Also George allegedly suggested they will show no hostility towards anyone who picks up the phone and calls them about joining their promotion. Looks like they're keeping the door open for everyone regardless of recent history althought I can't see Bellew or Burns picking up the phone.
Have to put Lee Selby and James DeGale right up there as potential first movers. Both only have 1 fight left on their promotional deal with Matchroom. Seems their relationship with Eddie is somewhat frosty.
I think Nathan Cleverly could be a good shout. Sure I remember reading an interview when he joined Matchroom suggesting he really didn't want to leave Fr&nk allegedly and joined Matchroom to appear on SKY and earn more money. Guys like Tommy Coyle, Rocky Fielding and Scotty Cardle might be good shouts. I also wonder if Callum Smith is getting bored of treading water. That's been nearly 18 months since he beat Christopher Rebrasse and over a year since he blew away local rival Fielding.

Cardles no value at all.chad wrote:In the interviews yesterday Frank claimed he's already received calls from unhappy fighters promoted by rivals. Masher Dodd who should have two wins over Cardle could be a shout.
Shifts tickets and not sure he is technically a matchroom fighter. Him v stalker would be a decent fight merseyside too.

Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
Crolla isn't signed with Matchroom but is a free agent signing on a fight by fight basis, Selby id think would want to be part of the McGuigan/Sanagar shows on Channel 5 but money talks and I think every fighter not signed to Matchroom will wwant to at least have a chat with the Warrens and some of the current Matchroom will also want to talk, how about Bellew? surely he wouldn't?? and a long shot but what about Froch coming back to fight Golovkin on BT?
Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
I think fighters like Fielding, Cardle & Callum Johnson will be the kinda guys switching over. Guys who Eddie has stronger options in the same division.

Nick Halling in a multi-million pound deal
Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
Could see a lot of prospects I think moving over.
A lot of them get on arena shows. The Jake Ball's and Ted Cheeseman's of this world, but are never televised. With allegedly and probably BT (or between them) showing full cards from start to finish, it's a good opportunity to get on TV, and gain more sponsorship.
I don't think there'll be a BIG name though. Not one in their prime anyway.
One I maybe wonder about could be Smigga Smig, chasing that 110% completely deserved World Title shot, could be lured away from being a Sky luvvie for a WBO bauble. On the chance he can make Super Middle. In my opinion though, and all puns intended, there's fat chance of that happening.

Haha quality last paragraph

That's always seemed the best strategy to me- fighting on a fight by fight basis. However, that's probably better the more in demand you are.dave_smith wrote:Will anyone actually 'defect'? That's why I was amazed when AJ signed that long term deal with Matchroom. I was fully expecting it to be sign with Matchroom until he gets a WT and then not long after go solo with his own promotional company.lefty wrote:That's always seemed the best strategy to me- fighting on a fight by fight basis. My guess is this deal of 'owning the show' but giving Hearn 20% is the best of both. If you are PPV and have that deal every fight it must be f ucking ecstasy.
Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
Anyone else looking forward to seeing this unfold? I'd love to hear Hearn's opinion on it but no doubt he won't allow IFL to mention it in their interviews with him.
Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
Frank needs well known fighters to sell the BT shows especially the first couple, will be interesting to see who he targets . Someone like Crolla to fight Flanagan would be good or Quigg to chase Frampton would be another

Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
Great news for Flanagan this BT deal.
I see the extra money getting Linares if he doesn't go straight back with Crolla.
Walsh has the backing now to get Pedraza over here.

Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
I think this deal has worked out very well for the GB Olympic team, with the likes of Joyce, Bhuatsi, Okolie, McCormack and Cordina having seriously increased their value.
What with BT mentioning Franks vision of developing young talent.

Master of spin never avoids subjects. He will totally say how great it is and how he opened the door for it with the matchroom business model.DannyMCR wrote:Anyone else looking forward to seeing this unfold? As long as AJ stays unbeaten I doubt Hearn cares about the BT deal.
If AJ gets chinned that would be very interesting
Re: First high profile Matchroom defector ???
Yeah agree with that, in time Hearn will be on less of a percentage imo but will be happy to do so for the reflective glory and for AJ it's less hassle to do it like this.jameswilson wrote:That's why I was amazed when AJ signed that long term deal with Matchroom.
